We are gearing up for the 2020-2021 Booster Membership drive. Last year, the Booster Club raised over $80,000 for District student-athletes at CFHS, Peet Junior High and Holmes Junior High. Have a graduation gown? You can help a healthcare worker! Cedar Falls Schools is coordinating a collection of graduation gowns to donate to Gowns4Good. Gowns for Good mission is to protect healthcare workers by upcycling graduation gowns. Gowns can be dropped off with no contact from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. at the district administration center at 1002 W. First Street or at Cedar Falls High School, 1015 Division Street. Gowns can be dropped off now through July 31.
Congratulations to all of our Preschool Graduates!
North Cedar Elementary Preschool students had their graduation from a distance! They were able to wear their graduation caps, sign their letters of intent for kindergarten and give the noodle handshake!
The elementary TAG teachers put together a service project for any student and family that wanted to take part. They shared a book called, The Important Book , by Margaret Wise Brown. Then gave step by step directions in a video to explain the project. This video is the finished product of the elementary students/families reading their pieces for the essential worker they chose to write about.
The CFHS Counseling Office was approached this spring to offer an anonymous scholarship to graduating seniors highlighting some of the great things they did during the school shutdown to help our community. They had many great applications and would like to thank all of the Class of 2020 members who submitted. The committee chose three students who will each receive a $250 check for their contributions. Thank you all and especially thanks to the anonymous donor for their generous gift that highlights the contributions of our students. Here are the three recipients:

Emma Cryer:  Emma played hymns and songs on her trumpet outside of Northcrest Specialty Care Center for the residents. She spent many hours entertaining the residents when they were quarantined and could not have visitors. Emma was definitely a hit with the residents.

Hunter Peterson:  Hunter was very busy during the school shutdown. Along with working three jobs, he did some extra things that helped many people get through this difficult time. 
Hunter previously worked at the Western Home but took a leave of absence during the shutdown. He had become involved in the lives of these residences so he decided to become virtual pen pals with them. He wrote letters to each of them and was blessed to have received back cards and emails from many of the residents. After getting a sewing machine from his grandma, he was able to make masks for himself and coworkers. He also donated masks that were put in food packages to be delivered to those in need. 

Isabella Smith:  Isabella and several of her artist friends opened up an Etsy shop to raise funds by selling fan art prints with 100% of proceeds going to the World Health Organization to aid COVID relief efforts! ⁣They surpassed their goal and raised over $4,000 and sold many beautiful prints.

Named Gatorade Athlete of the Year
Michael was named the 2020 Gatorade Iowa Girls Track and Field Athlete of the Year. Her career includes 11 state medals, five state event titles and a Drake Relays championship.

Congratulations to these Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association All Academic Honorees including our own #TigerPride : Annika Strohm, Samantha Zimmerman, Emma Klose, Ellie Considine, Elise Markham, Valarie Sjade, Dylan Beecher, Nicole Motzko, Abigail Morlan, and Sarimah Ogbondah.
Kyle Trunnell competed in the 110-meter championship at the Track Guy Carnival in Brooklyn. Trunnell finished in 14.34, surpassing a Cedar Falls school record time of 14.64 that has stood since 2004.
Vaccine Requirements: 
2020-2021 7th and 12th grade students: When scheduling your medical provider visits keep in mind that the Meningococcal Vaccine, specifically A/C/Y/W vaccine, is  REQUIRED  for all incoming students  entering
7 and 12 grades   for the 2020-2021 school year.  Students must have the vaccine  prior to the first day of school  to attend and will not be permitted to attend until the vaccine has been administered. Incoming 7th graders have an additional requirement of a Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis (Tdap) vaccine booster. Please contact your student's health office if you have questions.

Do not postpone well-child exams, physicals and immunizations
The American Academy of Pediatrics encourages parents to no longer postpone annual well-child exams due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Pediatricians at MercyOne advise parents to consider scheduling back to school or overdue yearly physicals early this summer rather than waiting until August. We have gone to great lengths to reduce risk when visiting our campus. All patients and visitors are screened at the door for fever and any who have fever are not admitted. All individuals over the age of two are encouraged to wear masks, and masks are provided. All sick patients who need to be seen by their primary care provider are being seen in another location or through Virtual Visits to reduce risk to healthy patients coming to get well visits. Many of our providers are able to offer same-day visits or next day visits. Please call now to schedule your visit to beat the rush. 
FIRST LEGO League teams for the 2020-2021 school year are expected to begin in August or September as school is getting started. The FIRST LEGO League Challenge division (formerly known as FLL) is open to any students in grades 4-8. These teams will meet from August through December, with state qualifying teams continuing into January. The FIRST LEGO League Explore division (formerly known as FLL Jr.) will be open to students in grades 1-3. These teams will meet for 12 weeks either in the fall or spring. Sign up forms to participate in these teams will be available later in the summer. Watch newsletters for further sign up information. 2020 is a census year, when all of the people living in the United States are counted. The census is important because it determines everything from congressional representation to the distribution of billions of dollars in federal funds. In 2010, Iowa lost funding due to an undercount of young children. An estimated 4,726 children were missed. Some of the education programs that have lost funds in Iowa each year since 2015 by undercounting include: Special Education Grants, National School Lunch Program, Title 1 Grants, Head Start, School Breakfast Program.
