But God!

Those two words resounded afresh at Bible Study this past Wednesday! Sometimes that’s all we can say. A search through Scriptures will uncover many “But God” moments. “But God remembered Noah.” During chaos and wickedness, God called Noah to build an ark. When Jacob was mistreated by his uncle Laban, God “stepped in” and would not allow Laban to do Jacob any harm. Finally, we know that story of Joseph very well. His brothers “meant it for evil, ‘But God’ meant it for the good.”

But we can’t overlook a couple other “But God” moments. Romans 5:8 states, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” The Apostle Peter adds, “But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.” Through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, we can be freed from the power of sin and receive eternal life. Thanks be to God!

Take some time to remember your “But God “moments! Then give God some praise for what He has done!

Historical Glance at HBCU's

WEEK THREE: HBCUs: Did you Know?

Bennett College was established in 1873 for education Black American females. The Bennett Belles took part in the Greensboro lunch counter sit-ins of the 1960s. A moment that inspired social changes here and beyond. Bennett College is one of the two (2) women’s-only HBCUs in the United States, and in 1955, the school’s president Dr. Willa B. Player, became the first Black woman in the nation to serve as a college president.

          SEPTEMBER IS PROSTATE CANCER MONTH

Black men both get and die from prostate cancer at a higher rate. The reasons are complex and not fully understood. Black men are 50% more likely to develop prostate cancer in their lifetime and twice as likely to die from the disease. Given the higher risk of developing prostate cancer and dying from the disease, Black men are more likely to be saved by screening.

The main prostate cancer screening tests are a digital rectal exam per our own Dr. Leroy Darkes, MD, in which a doctor checks for swelling and inflammation, and a PSA test, which measures the level of prostate specific antigen (PSA) in the blood. CFBC men when have you had your most recent prostate screening?
