Supreme Oil: Garth Davis Passes Mantle of President and CEO to Kym Reichert

Our friends at Supreme have announced the former President and CEO Garth Davis has passed the mantle to Kym Reichert. Garth remains an active stakeholder and voice at Supreme, and we wish them both nothing but the best in this transition!

Last month, CFCA was fortunate enough to visit our friends at Supreme Oil. Supreme is a longtime supporter of CFCA and PFCS, sponsoring countless events for our industry. While on a site visit in San Diego, the team at Supreme was gracious enough to host us and provide a tour of their beautiful facility.

Portable Equipment Registration Program
Tier 1 and Tier 2 Engines Owned by Large Fleets

Upcoming Deadline Reminder
This is a reminder of an upcoming deadline for Tier 1 and Tier 2 engines registered in the Statewide Portable Equipment Registration Program (PERP) and owned by large fleets. Large fleets have a total cumulative horsepower over 750 brake horsepower (bhp) for all portable engines under common ownership and control of the fleet.

The last postmark date PERP will accept low use, or emergency use, modification requests for registrations with Tier 1 engines rated greater than 750 bhp and Tier 2 engines built prior to January 1, 2009 rated at 50 bhp to 750 bhp is July 1, 2021.

The last postmark date PERP will accept change of ownership applications for registrations with Tier 1 engines rated at greater than 750 bhp (including flexibility engines) is also July 1, 2021.

Applications that are postmarked after this date will be denied.

In addition, all fleets with active Tier 2 registrations in PERP have been sent brown color placards along with updated registration documents, including stickers, reflecting the December 31, 2021 phase-out date as part of a Tier 2 mass mailer. Please replace your green placards and registration documents with the updated registration packages sent to you.

California's political landscape is among the most volatile in the nation. Keeping up with the latest trends and rumors is nearly impossible for the average Californian. Now you have the opportunity to hear insights from a seasoned political veteran.

Rob Stutzman has been on the inside track of Californian politics for decades. Rob was deputy chief of staff for communications to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. He also served as co-communications director in the historic California Recall of 2003 that placed Schwarzenegger in office.

Now, Rob is president of Stutzman Public Affairs, a Sacramento based firm specializing in campaigns, communications, crisis management and award-winning political advertising.

7-Eleven to Install 500 EV Charging Ports by the End of 2022
June 17, 2021

Convenience stores are ubiquitous — and they sell the vast majority of gas purchased by consumers in the United States. But as more Americans transition to electric vehicles, a major reason people visit convenience stores will disappear.

Industry giant 7-Eleven is looking to capture this growing market of EV drivers. The company said Tuesday it will install 500 direct-current fast charging ports at 250 locations across North America by the end of 2022. These charging ports will be owned and operated by 7-Eleven, as opposed to fuel at its filling stations, which must be purchased from suppliers.

Many charging stations from some of the country’s largest providers, like EVgo, ChargePoint or Tesla’s Supercharger network, are located in a patchwork of parking lots adjacent to shopping malls or retailers like Target. But a major draw of convenience stores like 7-Eleven is that they’re already located in areas adjacent to highways or major roads — so they may have a leg up in attracting drivers.

‘A different California’: Recent Seismic Shifts Could Help Newsom Survive A Recall
May 12, 2021

It’s been almost two decades since Californians ousted then-Gov. Gray Davis in a historic recall election. Critics of current Gov. Gavin Newsom hope to repeat the feat later this year.

While the rules of the recall have stayed the same, much about the state has changed since the 2003 vote.

California’s population today is more diverse and educated. Those shifts have helped power a political swing toward the Democratic Party and could shield Newsom from the forces that doomed Davis.

These are among the key factors set to shape the race, according to data analysis by The Times and interviews with experts on Golden State politics.

California’s Hottest, Driest Days Are Getting Even Drier, Worsening Fire Risk
June 17, 2021

If you live in the American West, you don’t need me to tell you it’s hot, hot, hot.

Palm Springs set a daily record of 120 degrees this week. So did Anaheim, where the mercury hit 97. Salt Lake City tied its all-time temperature record, as did the Montana city of Billings. Las Vegas baked in 114-degree weather on Tuesday and was expected to be even warmer the next two days. The hills above Santa Clarita, north of Los Angeles, saw an overnight low of 87 degrees.

The California Independent System Operator warned that high nighttime lows and scorching temperatures across the West had led to tight electricity supplies, and issued a “Flex Alert,” urging people to use less electricity from 5-10 p.m. on Thursday. The grid operator said it didn’t expect rolling blackouts like we experienced last summer, although power shortfalls were still possible.
