A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Cape Fear Community College

Dear Sea Devil Community,

Join me in welcoming all new and returning students to our campuses! The Fall semester is in full swing, and the campus energy level is dynamic with the return of students. New Student Orientation and Back-to-Campus events have had tremendous turnouts.

I am pleased to announce that our Associate Degree Nursing Program was once again ranked #1 in the state by Nursing Process.org. The quality of instruction and popularity of our ADN program fills seats quickly. CFCC applied for and was awarded a grant that will allow us to hire additional nursing faculty. Not only will this open up the program to more students, but it will also help us better serve our community with qualified nurses.

We are always working on effective ways to help students achieve their academic goals. One new project is the Sea Devil Student Mentoring Program. Student volunteers are committing their time to pair with a new or first-generation student in the same field of study to help their transition into college life. Engagement is an important element of student success. We applaud those who give their time to support academic success.

Mr. Ray Funderburk III

Mr. Funderburk is a long-time resident of New Hanover County. He taught high school English for 16 years. Prior to that, Mr. Funderburk helped plan and develop workforce training for manufacturing facilities.

Mr. Lanny WIlson

Mr. Wilson holds his law degree from Wake Forest University. He has served on the North Carolina Real Estate Commission, North Carolina Turnpike Authority, and the NC Department of Transportation.

Thank you to Mary Lyons Rouse and Bobby Collins for their time, efforts, and contributions to Cape Fear Community College.

They will always be an important part of the Sea Devil Family.

In the Spotlight

Composer and CFCC music instructor Ernesto Ferreri began his music career playing guitar in a rock band. Despite his rock and roll tendencies, he developed a fondness for classical music. Now, Ferreri's music is performed worldwide.

One way to find your career passion is to explore your options. Just ask David Eakins! He sampled several CFCC programs before discovering CFCC's Computer Integrated Machining (CIM) Program. Hands-on training led Eakins to a career he loves.

Sea Devils Student Mentoring Program

This fall, Sea Devils Student Mentoring Program kicks off in full swing, after a successful pilot in Spring 2022. This project meets a key aspect of CFCC's goal to support students toward persistence and successful degree completion. Following a brief orientation period, mentors will be paired with their mentees and meet regularly in hopes of easing the transition to college, encouraging higher grades, and creating an engaged student body. Mentors will help incoming students in similar fields of study, with particular attention to those who are first-generation and newly enrolled. This project is a partnership of Student Life, the Veterans' Center, the Office of Student Success, the Nixon Leaders Program, Phi Theta Kappa, and the Student Government Association.
