A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Cape Fear Community College
|
|
Greetings from Jim Morton - CFCC President
|
|
Dear Sea Devil Community,
With summer classes underway and fall enrollment in full swing, it is refreshing to see students back on campus and see things coming back to life. We continue to work hard to provide a safe environment for everyone and are constantly monitoring state and local guidelines regarding COVID-19.
At this time, due to an executive order by the Governor, masks are required on campus inside the buildings as well as outside areas, where a distance of six feet between individuals cannot be reliably maintained. We appreciate everyone’s efforts to help keep our campus community healthy and safe.
Even during these challenging times, good things are happening at CFCC, and I am happy to share that our Continuing Education programs are seeing great enrollment numbers! Our Truck Driver Training and Electrical Lineworker programs continue to do well and our online Ed2Go classes are extremely popular, with CFCC ranked 9th in the nation for Ed2Go registrations.
There was more great news at our recent board meeting, as Shane Fernando was named Vice President of Advancement and the Arts at CFCC. Now, Shane will have responsibility for the Wilson Center and the Cape Fear Community College Foundation. Please join me in congratulating Shane — we know he will do great things in his new role.
Lastly, I just want to update everyone that we've adjusted our schedule for the summer, so please stop by between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, or Friday 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. and talk with us.
Ready to learn more about CFCC? We are here for you! Chat with us or schedule a virtual appointment with a member of our admissions team.
Go Sea Devils!

Shane Fernando Named Vice President of Advancement and the Arts at CFCC
|
|
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Shane Fernando as Vice President of Advancement and the Arts. In this new role, Shane will oversee the Wilson Center and the CFCC Foundation. Congrats, Shane! We know you will do great things in this new position.
“I am thrilled to take on this new leadership role with the Cape Fear Community College Foundation. At the Wilson Center, a major focus of our work has been supporting and developing opportunities to engage students during their experience at CFCC through education, employment, service, and advocacy. In my new role, I will work with our team to connect students with available scholarships that will help them focus on their studies and increase their opportunities for lifelong success - without the burden of overwhelming student debt. I’m excited to explore ways area residents can become more involved at CFCC and help our students achieve their academic and career goals.”
— Shane Fernando

2020-2021 CFCC Merit Scholars Get a Surprise At their Front Door!
|
|
Merit scholarship recipient Maria Congema will study Dental Assisting this fall.
|
|
The Cape Fear Community College Foundation recently awarded merit scholarships to eleven local students who will begin their first year of college at CFCC this fall. Since students were unable to participate in traditional graduation ceremonies this year, each student was surprised at home with their award by a member of the CFCC Foundation staff. Each student received $1,300 toward their first semester at CFCC and will receive an additional $1,300 for the spring semester if they maintain a 3.5 GPA while completing 12 credit hours this fall.
The CFCC Foundation’s merit scholarships are awarded each year. To be considered, a student must be a current high school senior within New Hanover or Pender County and must have applied or been approved to enroll at Cape Fear Community College.
The recipients must demonstrate academic excellence and leadership in their high school careers. Academic performance, extracurricular activities, and community service are all considered in the selection process.
“
I am determined that making my own music will be my lifetime career, but getting established takes time, learning, hard work, and money. This scholarship will help cover the costs of my education while I’m a fledgling musician starting my career and learning the skills to make my art a business.
”
—CFCC Merit Scholar Ava Johnson
