A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Cape Fear Community College
|
|
Greetings from Jim Morton - CFCC President
|
|
Dear Sea Devil Community,
We will soon be finishing up a productive fall semester and entering the holiday season. With the Thanksgiving holiday quickly approaching, I want to say how incredibly proud I am of all we have accomplished at Cape Fear Community College this year. Our students have met the challenges of this unusual semester with determination and grit. Our faculty and staff have been tremendously creative and flexible, engaging our students in new ways and helping them succeed.
Spring registration is now open. I encourage our students to register quickly to get the schedule that best meets their needs. I also ask our community to help relay the benefits of attending Cape Fear Community College.
- University students will be home soon for winter break and can pick up an extra course at CFCC and transfer it back to their home institution. CFCC is an excellent choice for parents and students paying high tuition for online classes in a university setting.
- People who have lost their jobs because of COVID can turn to CFCC for low-cost training in fields that are in-demand regionally.
- High school students about to embark on the next stage of their lives should consider CFCC as their first option to begin their college careers. We have hundreds of affordable options to discover.
Help us spread the word - CFCC is ready and able to help students at any stage of life get the essential education and training they need to move forward.
We appreciate your continued support. We’re here to serve you and to bolster the economic health of our community.
I would like to wish everyone a safe and happy Thanksgiving. We hope you can take some time to rest, reflect, and enjoy the people and moments that matter in your life - safely. All the best from all of us here at CFCC!
Go Sea Devils!

Thank You: CFECA Supports CFCC Electrical Apprentices
|
|
John Downing, CFCC Vice President of Economic and Workforce Development and Tim Norris, Treasurer of the Cape Fear Electrical Contractors Association
|
|
CFCC's Electrical Apprenticeship program recently received $6,000 from the Cape Fear Electrical Contractor's Association (CFECA) to award scholarships to our program's electrical apprentices.
These scholarships will be awarded to dedicated apprentices at the end of their first year to help offset the cost of tools, books, and supplies essential to the electrical trade.
“CFECA’s support of CFCC apprentices is a true investment in our community,” said John Downing, CFCC Vice President of Economic and Workforce Development. “This generous gesture will help our apprentices persevere in the trade and continue to positively impact their families and our local economy.”
“The Cape Fear Electrical Contractors Association, Inc., is proud to dedicate this ongoing scholarship partnership with CFCC,” said Burton Vezina, Cape Fear Electrical Contractors Association, Inc. President. “This scholarship is made in memory of Robert C. Massengill, who was a consummate learner throughout his entire life and an example of the maxim 'you’re never too old to learn.’"

Pollinator Garden Helps Brighten Local After School Program
|

CFCC Landscape Gardening & Horticulture Science students recently installed a pollinator garden at Maides Park for a children's after-school program put on by the City of Wilmington Parks & Recreation. The garden, designed by a CFCC student, was chosen from a capstone course project. In addition to the garden design, there is educational material for the after-school students to learn more about pollination.

No Boundaries International Art Colony Returns to Wilma W. Daniels Gallery November 13-18
|
|
Starting November 13, this amazing exhibition returns with a unique perspective! Because of the challenges and limitations from COVID-19, NBIAC has curated a retrospective experience, looking back to exciting and powerful works by previous national and international colony participants. This will be an in-person event and we will adhere to state and local safety guidelines for COVID-19.
There will be an opening reception at the Wilma W. Daniels Gallery on November 13, from 6-8 pm. This will be an indoor/outdoor event featuring live music. Again, we will adhere to state and local health requirements and masks will be required.
"This is the first year since the creation of No Boundaries that we have not had an art colony on Bald Head Island. Because we cannot easily leave the country, nor can artists easily come here, we have pulled from our existing collection in order to share works from around the world with Wilmington and the Cape Fear region."
—Vicky Smith, NBIAC
NBAIC was incorporated in 1998 by Pam Toll, Gayle Tustin, and Dick Roberts with the purpose of bringing artists from around the world together to enlighten one another and to share art, culture, and ideas with the greater community.
