A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Cape Fear Community College
Greetings from Jim Morton - CFCC President
Dear Sea Devil Community,
We’re approaching the end of a successful fall semester and entering the holiday season. Thanksgiving is upon us, and I want to express my sincere thanks to our incredible faculty and staff, who continually inspire our students to work toward their goals.
I also want to express my gratitude to the men and women who have served our country in the United States armed forces. CFCC hosted a powerful Veterans Day Ceremony on November 11. The event featured dynamic guest speakers, all of whom are part of the CFCC family. Helping those who have dedicated their lives to the service and protection of our country is a source of tremendous pride for Cape Fear Community College. In 2021, we again received a Military Friendly designation. This recognition conveys our commitment to student veterans considering CFCC.
Spring registration is now open. I encourage all students to register as soon as possible to get the schedule that best meets their needs. Our winter session is also open for registration, and classes are filling quickly. CFCC students and visiting students from other colleges and universities can pick up an extra transferable course during the short-term winter session.
The North Carolina Community College System recently announced that eligibility for the Longleaf Commitment Grant has been expanded to include 2020 NC high school graduates in addition to 2021 grads. Full-time eligible students are guaranteed to receive $700 to $2,800 per year for a total of two years. Please share this important information with anyone who may think college is out of reach.
As you plan your end-of-year giving, I hope you will consider supporting Cape Fear Community College scholarships. So many of our students struggle financially, and often, receiving a scholarship is the only way they can continue to work toward their academic and career goals. To support CFCC students, visit cfcc.edu/give.
I wish everyone a safe and happy Thanksgiving holiday. We hope you can take
some time to relax, reenergize, and enjoy the special people and moments in your life.
All the best from all of us here at CFCC!

CFCC’s Cybercrime and Information Technology Programs Receive Certified Ethical Hacker Certification from EC-Council
The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a favorable job growth outlook for cybersecurity consultants. With an increased demand for information security, certification as a Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) is essential for employers seeking candidates to protect a company’s digital assets.
CFCC will offer this certification course to Cyber Crime Technology and Information Technology students beginning in the 2022 spring semester.
“Cyber Crime and Information Technology students with this credential will be highly sought after by Fortune 500 companies and are eligible for more than 20 job roles in the information security industry,” said Cyber Crime Technology Program Director Greg Vandergriff. “It is one of the most sought-after entry-level certifications in the security field.”

Congrats to Our Recent Grads!
Offered to detention officers from across the region, the state-mandated course load requires 174 hours of instruction, but these students completed 196 hours of instruction! Extra hours were built in to account for subject control techniques, contraband searches, a mock trial for investigative process, and extra time for review sessions.
Congrats, and thank you for helping to keep our community safe!
We are so proud of all you have accomplished and can’t wait to see where the road takes you!
The demand for truck drivers is at an all-time high. Last year, CFCC graduated hundreds of new truck drivers into the industry.
Day and evening classes are available. The next evening class begins on December 7, so sign up today!
