Greetings! Here's your monthly guide to what's happening at CFCC.
A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Cape Fear Community College

Greetings from Jim Morton - CFCC President
Dear Sea Devil Community,

The spread of COVID-19 in the Cape Fear region has challenged and changed us all. At CFCC, we have moved classes online wherever possible. Our amazing faculty and staff worked tirelessly to make this transition quickly, and to find ways to be there for our students during this unusual time. We have transitioned all our support services online so that students can still get the help they need, virtually.

Across the region, events we have looked forward to are now canceled or postponed. We miss the faces of our friends and the activities we typically enjoy this time of year.  But, despite all of this uncertainty, we are still finding community. At CFCC, we have stayed tightly connected with our students and work teams, encouraging and supporting each other. We have strengthened our bonds, even though we cannot connect in-person.

Our amazing instructors and student support services teams have transitioned their offerings online in record time, which resulted in minimal disruption for our students. Our students continue to thrive and learn through all of this, and they are providing us with great feedback and support.

We are grateful — to everyone who made this happen. We are grateful for the technology that makes it possible and for the perseverance of our faculty, staff, and students during this challenge. We are also grateful for you - our friends and families - who support us and help us grow, even in the face of adversity. We know that through this, our Sea Devils will endure and become stronger.
Stay healthy and strong, Sea Devils! We're all in this together.
Jim Morton, CFCC President

CFCC Celebrates Barber School Graduate During COVID-19 Pandemic
Marvin Ashley, a CFCC barber school student, was the first in the state to graduate barber school online due to COVID-19. Ashley had only a few hours left to go before classes moved online – barbering students complete 1,528 hours before they can be eligible to sit for the state exam. Now he can take the exam and move forward. Ashley received the “1,528 salute” from his fellow students and employees, virtually.

Congrats, Marvin!

The Wilson Center Launches Ghostlight Series
Due to the pandemic, the Wilson Center, The Arts Council of Wilmington, and New Hanover County have come together to launch the Ghostlight Series. This virtual event supports area musicians affected by the restrictions and limitations put in place to slow the spread of the coronavirus.

Streaming on WilsonCenterTickets.com, social media, and public radio station WHQR, the series features a local or regional artist each evening.

Participating artists include Christina Brier, Jared Michael Cline, Chase Johanson, Rhythm Bones, Daniel Rottenberg, Delia Stanley, and Johanna Winkel, to name a few.

The name “Ghostlight” originates from the bare bulb left illuminated, oftentimes, on the stages of unoccupied theatres. Without this bulb, the stage would be completely dark. This nightly series provides a light to our community by allowing local artists to share their talent virtually with the community and to receive support through donations collected by The Arts Council of Wilmington.
