A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Cape Fear Community College
|
|
Greetings from Jim Morton - CFCC President
|
|
February was a busy month here at CFCC! We received great news as our ADN Nursing program once again received #1 ranking in the state by RegisteredNursing.org. We are so proud of that recognition and our 100% NCLEX pass rates. Congrats to our nursing students and faculty on this achievement.
More exciting February happenings include: the grand opening of our Military Business Center, one of 15 across the state; a successful E.A.S.E. STEM event, with 180 Topsail middle schoolers visiting the North Campus for a day of science and fun; hosting the North Carolina Community College Fine Arts Conference; the CFCC Foundation Annual Donor Dinner; and several program and staff achievements.
Coming up, we’re looking forward to our Spring Open House Events: March 18 at our North Campus and April 22 at the downtown Wilmington Campus. Spread the word to future Sea Devils to
reserve their spot!

The Wilson Center at Cape Fear Community College Broadway for a Better World (BFABW) Initiative has awarded tickets valuing $100,000 to area nonprofits. On February 13, the Wilson Center and the Arts Council of Wilmington held the annual Broadway for a Better World Fundraising Breakfast.
The
Broadway for a Better World program is funded through the tremendous generosity of private donors, with the mission of the theater experience and all of its associated benefits available to area non-profits, with a focus particularly on young people under the age of eighteen. The grant program is administered by the Arts Council of Wilmington and New Hanover County and grant recipients are selected by an independent committee. Nonprofit organizations in New Hanover and Pender counties can apply to receive tickets to Wilson Center PNC Broadway or Stars Series performances.
Since its January 2018 inception, BFABW has made grants of tickets totaling $115,487.57 in tickets to community organizations and CFCC classes and student organizations.

This unique event not only introduced these middle schoolers to science (and made it fun), but also let them see first-hand the wonderful facilities and opportunities at our north campus, AND allowed them to interact with our awesome faculty & staff.

February Employee of the Month: Carol Brown
|
|
A big congrats to Carol Brown, CFCC Advising Center Director, for being voted Employee of the Month for February 2020!
Carol's colleagues can't help but boast:
“Carol Brown inspires us daily. She leads by example. She is positive, encouraging, and absolutely fearless about pursuing what is best for our students. She keeps us informed. She checks in often to make certain that we have the resources we need to do the job. She is open to creativity and encourages us to try out new processes. She still advises students herself, which keeps her in touch with the problems we encounter daily as advisors. She encourages us to pursue projects of interest, and distributes workload equitably. She is a first-class manager.”
“Carol has every hallmark of a great manager. She is efficient, poised, conscientious, and, above all, truly caring. I am grateful to be able to work with her and our department is incredibly fortunate to have her.”

The Flick: A Play by Annie Baker

The CFCC Humanities and Fine Arts Department is proud to present Annie Baker's 2013 play
The Flick at the Wilson Center Studio Theater. Described as a hilarious cry for authenticity in a fast-changing world,
The Flick won the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
Set in a struggling movie theater in central Massachusetts, the story chronicles the misadventures of three underpaid employees as they attend to one of the last 35mm film projectors in the state.
“Students have been working on this project since last November. The production is a collaborative effort by CFCC’s Fine and Performing Arts students. Students are featured in all facets of the show: Stagecraft students build the set, Play Production students serve as heads of each department (Lighting, Scenic, Sound, Stage Management, and Costuming), and Acting students perform the piece.”
