Ali Raad
Senior Clinical Research Coordinator
araad@hs.uci.edu
Ali has a BS in Biochemistry and Cellular Biology from UCSD and is passionate in providing excellent patient care. He has 5 years of oncology clinical trials experience, where he coordinated Ph I-III national, institutional, and cooperative trials, with a large component in Nuclear Medicine studies. Ali aided with the development of our Nuc Med/CTU workflow and was one of the first CRCs to enroll patients at CIACC, also contributing to Irvine’s workflow development. He also helped jumpstart the launch of a large IIT, UCI 23-137 (enrollment goal = 400 patients!), and along with the help of colleagues, enrolled 16 patients during the last two months of 2024. He immediately managed a complex workload as an ACRC when he first joined the Cancer Center in 2022, managing trial coordination in the infusion center, Nuc Med, and urology—each with unique workflows and teams. Ali also frequently aids his colleagues with training, coverage, screening, and consenting. He critically thinks, plans ahead, continuously demonstrates adeptness with clinical trial coordination, and is an optimistic member of our unit. We are excited to see Ali excel in this new role and to continue being an instrumental member to our unit!

Rémi Buisson, PhD (Biological Chemistry) received an NIH R21, “Role of APOBEC3B in the Innate Immune Response.” A critical issue in virus research is understanding the host response, following infection, to suppress viral replication and propagation. The goal of this proposal is to explain how APOBEC3B, a cytosine deaminase, inhibits RNA virus replication in addition to its editing function against DNA viruses. We propose that APOBEC3B is an important regulator of the innate immune system in response to RNA virus infections. | |
