On October 1, the School of Medicine’s Office of Belonging, Equity & Empowerment (BEE), in collaboration with medical students and partners, including the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, hosted the second annual National Latinx Physician Day Celebration. This event honored the ongoing contributions of Latinx physicians in healthcare and highlighted the need for greater representation. In California, Latinx individuals make up approximately 39% of the population, yet only 6% of U.S. physicians identify as Latino or Latina. The celebration recognized current and future physician leaders working to increase diversity in medicine, as 6% is not enough.
