Hoping the New Year brings good health and happiness to ALL!

Ringing in the new year” refers to the old tradition of celebrating beginnings and endings with bells—à la Alfred Lord Tennyson's 1850 poem “Ring Out, Wild Bells.” On the other side of things, “bringing in the new year” references ushering in the new beginning.

How to Find a Place for Kids to Play in the Pandemic

We are justifiably worried about America's kids. Their routines and communities were dramatically disrupted by the COVID-19 virus. In many cases, they faced, over an extended period of time, chaos created by the pandemic, loss of friendships and...

NEW YEAR TRADITIONS-A DAY OF FAMILY FUN
By Shaunna Evans 6 Comments · This content may contain affiliate links.
New Year’s Eve has changed quite a bit since I became a mother, but so far the girls are so young that the night is still largely an adult night. They are soundly tucked in their beds before most of the New Year’s Eve festivities begin, and it is fun to spend some quality time with adults. However, we do have a lot of kid-centered fun on New Year’s Day. This year I decided to take some of our traditional activities and combine them with a few new ones that I know the girls will enjoy. Many of them could be done on either New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day.

1. Year Pancakes: We will make pancakes and use number cookie cutters to make the new year. Our New Year’s Day will include 13 bags, inspired by the Countdown Bags from Sweet Blessings. The girls will open one each hour from the time they wake up until the time they go to bed. So far I am planning the following activities…
2. Story Time: We will read New Year’s Day, a simple nonfiction that shares some facts about New Year’s Day.

Featured Program- VIRTUAL BOOK BUDDIES!
with Ms. Leslie
Does your little one have a hard time sitting through a book during his/her quiet time?
Do you find yourself skipping story time more often than not?
Don't give up! Let's try something new! Little ones ALWAYS want to please their teacher and may sit through a book if they knew their teacher was listening to their story time! We have nothing to lose to see if this approach works and everything to gain when it comes to reading!!
Join my "Virtual Book Buddies" club and we will coordinate a time for me to join your story time. (Accepting children that enjoy reading too!)
Here is the process.  I will email each family individually to schedule a 10-15 minute story time. Book club will meet once a week for the month of January. One parent or caregiver must be present during the call at all times. After the book is read, I will ask a few basic age appropriate questions, praise them, and say bye or good night!
Reading not only benefits language development but has so many other vital benefits! Articles on the importance of reading to your child will be emailed to you throughout the month of January!
Any questions, please email me at LReilly@selfhelpinc.org.
