Naptime Nuggets: A Time for Parents to Chat!

Join CFCE Specialist Marsha Wright and Leslie Reilly on Zoom for Naptime Nuggets, a weekly parent group for parents of young children. Get your child settled for a nap, grab a snack, and join us for an hour long chat. We will spend an hour chatting each week about ways to support your families continued development. The first few weeks we will chat about social emotional development.  Future topics will be determined by the group.  Each week we will follow up our chat with an email that contains strategies and resources that pertain to our discussion. Parents will have the opportunity each week to share their best strategies with each other. Best of all it is from the comfort of your own home! The Youngest Marcher: The Children's March for Civil Rights

Did you know even children helped in the fight for civil rights? Join Ms. Gina and Ms. Marsha as we learn about the Children's March and the role children played in the Civil Rights Movement. We will learn about Audrey Faye Hendricks, a nine year old girl, who was the youngest marcher and experience the March through her eyes. We will watch a video interview with Audrey Faye Hendricks and read another story to help bring the march to life. Each child will be asked to design their own protest sign and share it with the rest of the group.  THIS PROGRAM IS FOR CHILDREN IN GRADES K-4.

NO REGISTRATION NEEDED...JUST CALL THE HOLBROOK PUBLIC LIBRARY TO ARRANGE A LOBBY PICK-UP.... Resources include our CFCE brochure outlining our various playgroups, parent training, individual services, ASQ, etc. The Self Help brochure includes information about fuel assistance, WIC, Head Start, Weatherization, etc. Many other helpful resources and information are included as well as a children’s craft along with an activity booklet for home from WBGH of lots of fun things to do..all included in a pre- packaged bag!!!

Toddler Town (February)

Yep! Just for the toddlers! Obviously parents must accompany their child to Toddler Town by either having them sit beside you or on your lap. We will be reading a story, doing some fun teacher directed activities, sing some songs and maybe even get up and move our bodies. This activity will follow the flow of the little ones. We all know how unpredictable they can be. This will be a great way to introduce your little ones into the world of Virtual Learning. When you come to our activity, please bring a scarf, napkin, or a piece of flowy material that the children can wave back and forth.

Winter Story Walk "Duck and Hippo- The Secret Valentine"
Come enjoy reading a story outdoors with your child along a designated pathway. This Story Walk book isDuck and Hippo- The Secret Valentine- and it comes with a pre-packaged packet of a craft to do at home to give to each child at the end along with some helpful handouts!  REGISTER NOW by emailing:  Carol Carver   ccarver@selfhelpinc.org 
Once a month a different Story Walk will be posted for the winter months of February and March- so please register for one or both!! Time slot will be spaced 10 minutes apart to ensure the safety of all of our families.
Dates: February 12 and March 15 (weather permitting)
Time: 10:30 A. M. to whenever registered time slots get filled with a 10 minute span in between families arriving and leaving
Location: Outdoor space along the walkway around the building at Self Help Inc./ CFCE, 780 West Main Street, Avon, MA
All CDC and EEC guidelines for this in-person activity will be followed- thank you!

Ms. Marsha's Friday Story and Crafts
Join Ms. Marsha on Zoom on Friday's for this virtual playgroup. Each week we explore different themes with stories, videos and songs. Suggested craft projects are emailed to families on Wednesday to allow time to gather supplies. All crafts use materials you can find in your home. The children will have a chance to interact with Ms. Marsha and the other children during each group. There will be a craft period during which children can do their crafts along with Ms. Marsha.  This group will meet weekly until May 14th.  Please be sure to include your mailing address in case I need to mail special materials. 
Once you have registered you will receive a zoom link for the program.

Fantasy Story Time: The Magician's Hat

Magician's Hat Story time: A fantasy themed story time for children and their families. This program is based on the book “The Magician’s Hat” by Malcolm Mitchell. After reading the story, children will be asked to participate in "art" related to the story including drawing a picture of what they want to be when they grow up. They can email that picture in and Carol will send them coloring pages related to what they want to be along with some "super star" stickers and a book!!(make sure to include your name and address). During this magical time, there will also be music and movement, and magic tricks that will stimulate their imagination!

People are natural tinkerers. It is our nature to explore and create things. Encouraging children to tinker gives them skills to be creative problem solvers out in the world! Tinkerers make great discoveries, solve small and large- problems, experiment, test things out to see what works and what doesn't, etc.- the list can go on and on.
