Education Showcase 2019
As our Academy of Medical Educators grows and UCSF’s education community finds their responsibilities and time commitments expanding, the Center for Faculty Educators’ annual UCSF Education Showcase continues to provide opportunities for interactions around current educational scholarship, interprofessional development in education, mentoring in education, and educational networking opportunities.
This year’s visiting Presidential Chair, Dr. Cees van der Vleuten , delivered his keynote address on programmatic assessment. All assessment mechanisms involve necessary trade-offs of reliability, validity, educational impact, acceptability, and cost. Our mission as educators is never to develop an assessment that can be perfect in every way, but rather to make informed decisions about what to compromise on, and when.
The Education Showcase’s plenary session was a collection of presentations on innovative work, spotlighting several key areas in UCSF’s ongoing education efforts from education scholars Stanley Vance, MD; Elizabeth Griffiths, MD, MPH; Kathryn Robertson, MD; Sarah Schaeffer, MD, MPH; Susan Wlodarczyk, MD; and, Diana Thiara, MD.
UCSF Fresno celebrated its 4 th annual UCSF Fresno Education Symposium and this year's keynote speaker was the AME’s Anda Kuo, MD . Dr. Kuo is currently the Co-Lead of the UCSF Child Health Equity Institute and the Founding Director of the UCSF Pediatric Leadership for the Underserved (PLUS Residency Program). She is also the co-founder of a statewide advocacy collaborative consisting of 14 pediatric residency training programs to improve child health within the state of California. Given her interests and expertise, she was the perfect person to address our faculty and learners about the importance of educating future physicians and to address the root causes of poor health.
Academy members, Andrea Marmor, MD, MSEd (AME Class of 2014) and  Pinelopi Xenoudi, DDS, MS (AME Class of 2017 and TSP Class 2014-2015) are recipients of the 2019 Distinction in Teaching Award, by UCSF's Academic Senate.
Recipients of the Academic Senate Distinction In Teaching Awards and the Distinction In Mentoring Awards were honored at the Senate’s Distinguished Faculty Awards Ceremony on May 16.
