MS CARES Grant Program Extended

Eligible Food Pantries and Nonprofits May Apply

CFM is pleased to announce that the MS CARES Grants Program has been extended through December 31, 2021.

Launched in 2020 with federal CARES funds and administered by the state's seven community foundations, the program provides reimbursement grants for COVID-related expenses incurred by eligible nonprofits and food pantries.

NONPROFITS may apply for up to $12,000, including all previous CARES grants received, for expenses incurred between March 1, 2020 and December 31, 2021.

FOOD PANTRIES may apply for any amount to reimburse eligible expenses incurred between March 1, 2020 and December 31, 2021.

I received CARES grant funding in the first round. Can we apply again?

Yes. Please do not submit expenses that have already been reimbursed. Nonprofits may only apply for up to $12,000 total from both rounds, but food pantries may apply for any amount.

Fund Spotlight: 2021 Bill Hunsberger Scholarship Winner Elle Muirhead

Elle Muirhead is a junior at the University of Mississippi. She is double majoring in Integrated Marketing Communications and Visual Journalism, as well as double minoring in General Business and Entrepreneurship. She is currently a member of the Creative team for Square Magazine at Ole Miss, a student worker in the Chancellor’s office, head of communications for Pinelake College, and an assistant coach for a local soccer team. She graduated from Madison Central High School in Madison, Mississippi, and plans to attend law school after graduating from the University of Mississippi in 2023.

The Bill Hunsberger Scholarship honors William W. Hunsberger, publisher of the Clarion-Ledger newspaper and a board member of the Community Foundation, who died in 2004. His family and friends established the Hunsberger Fund to provide journalism and political science scholarships to

students studying in the programs at the universities attended by his three daughters.
