Dr. Alferdteen Harrison Receives Lifetime Achievement Award

At the Mississippi Historical Society's 2021 annual meeting, Alferdteen Harrison received the Lifetime Achievement Award for her extensive scholarship and substantial preservation efforts.

Harrison, who served as the Historical Society's president in 1991, is the former director of the Margaret Walker Alexander National Research Center at Jackson State University and a co-founder of the Smith Robertson Museum & Cultural Center in Jackson.

A former Community Foundation for Mississippi board member and current fund advisor, she has been featured as one of the Community Foundation's Profiles in Philanthropy for her commitment to the community. Harrison is currently leading an effort to save the Scott-Ford House in Jackson’s Farish Street Historic District and has established a fund for that purpose at CFM. Learn more.

Turn on the Lights! Smith Park Shines with Ongoing Restoration Project

CFM was proud to partner with Downtown Jackson Partners on the Smith Park Lighting Project. At the press conference and lighting ceremony, Downtown Jackson Partners President John Gomez gave an update on the nonprofit's current projects.

The bistro lighting draping the canopy adds a touch of ambiance to one of the oldest parks in America. Learn more about the full scope of the Smith Park Restoration Project here.
