President's Letter
Have you heard the news?  CFMA Chicago members have a lot to celebrate!  The Chapter was awarded the 2016 Chairman's Excellence Award by CFMA National during the Annual Conference in San Antonio.  The Chairman's Excellence Award is the highest level award presented to a chapter in the achievement category of CFMA's annual Recognition Program.   This award is the result of tireless efforts of our all-volunteer committees; members and colleagues who are committed to the industry and to CFMA.

Speaking of our members, I am excited to share that our membership has grown to 242 - an all-time high for the Chicago Chapter!  More importantly, our members are active.  This year's Summer Social sold out in record time with 110 registrants and the Golf Outing is on course to do the same.  Registrations for the Midwest Regional Conference are also trending higher than previous years.

As we enter the fall months, we plan to keep this momentum going with a full calendar of educational opportunities, social and other networking events.  I invite you to join the celebration, be a part of the conversation, get involved and maximize your CFMA membership - good things are happening!

2016 Summer Social
The Summer Social - Crosstown Classic was a big success as more than 100 CFMA Chicago members and colleagues gathered at Wrigley Field on July 28th for some food, drink and hometown baseball.   Here are just a few photos from the event:

You can have your cake and eat it too!
Or how moving your office infrastructure to the cloud can save money and increase productivity.

By: Dom Pernai, President, Cornerstone Solutions
As I write this article, I think back to the Ground Hog Day blizzard of 2011. Not because it is another hot summer day and I am looking for relief. No, I think of that day because like most Chicagoans I was stuck in my home, however, I was able to be as productive as ever. I had my office phone by my side and my computer hooked up to a docking station and I could complete anything that I would complete if I had been in the office. All of the data that I would access in my office from email to our customer database to our accounting system was all available to me. How is that possible you ask? It was possible because of a cost saving decision I made a year earlier.  Read the Complete Article
"Security is always something that makes people get very nervous about using cloud technology. The reality is that the right data center provider has much better security than any of us could afford."

Interested in getting more involved in CFMA?  Consider joining a committee!  The "Build Chicago" Awards Committee is currently seeking new members to help plan the annual awards luncheon.  The awards program started in 2009 to annually recognize a Construction Contractor, a General Member, and an Associate Member in the construction finance industry who exemplifies the highest level of leadership and support for CFMA, their community, and the industry. The committee meets as needed but typically begins its planning after the holiday season.  If you are interested in serving on the Awards Committee, please email committee chair, James Preuss for more information.
