Bimonthly Newsletter of Chicago CFMA

December 2017
As we prepare to close out another year, I would like to take this opportunity to express my best wishes for the holidays, and sincere thank you to all of you for a very successful 2017.

Throughout this year, I encouraged each of you to consider
"one more."  Thanks to each of your "one mores" our chapter continues to meet and exceed our goals, while setting standards for other CFMA chapters.  Each of our accomplishments are the direct result of the time and effort put forth by committee members, chairs, board of directors, and our active chapter members.

The past 12 months have once again been marked by record growth and noteworthy accomplishments. Our membership is currently 275 strong; a net increase of 6% over this time last year. We welcomed 53 new members; an all-time high for our chapter!

As a chapter we hosted fourteen programs, educational opportunities and social events.   Sixty-three percent of our membership attended at least one program/event this year equating to a total of 1032 attendees. We look forward to increasing those numbers in 2018 as we continue to focus on quality programming and speakers, and building partnerships with other industry associations. One example of this partnership is the Financial Management program with the ASA Chicago Chapter in January. More information about this program may be found below.

As we close out 2017, I would be remiss if I didn't recognize our Annual Sponsors who make it possible for us to bring in quality speakers and offer some of the best educational and social events to our members.

As we shift our thoughts to the new year and as you are renewing your membership for 2018, take a moment to consider what your involvement will look like.   This year I challenged you to consider doing one more. Now I challenge you to think about how your one more improved your CFMA experience, and how you can share that experience with someone else.

Happy Holidays and best wishes for a healthy and prosperous New Year! I look forward to what we will accomplish together in 2018!

Candidate for Subcontractor Default Insurance?
Is your general contracting company or significant project (yes, project-specific policies are available) a good candidate for Subcontractor Default Insurance "SDI?" The following questions will help guide you:

1) Can we commit to enough volume?
2) Can the costs be absorbed by the project owner(s)?
3) Are we willing to do the prequalification work?

A well-managed SDI program can be a positive risk-mitigation tool for GC's that meet the criteria and commit to the process.
