Bimonthly Newsletter of Chicago CFMA

February 2017
President's Letter
In the last newsletter I ended my letter with a challenge of doing ONE MORE and what that could mean to each of us individually as well as our Chapter and partners.  I think we saw firsthand ONE MORE success this past month with our partnership initiative.

Why do partnerships make us stronger?  It's like the old adage, "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts," and when partnerships are involved both parties, plus many more benefit. The core purpose of our chapter is to provide resources to meet the challenges of Construction Financial Professionals.  One way we do this is through partnerships.

Earlier this month our chapter partnered with the Builders Association and mental health service providers to host a Suicide Prevention Summit as part of CFMA's national initiative.  More than 90 people participated and engaged in dialogue about this important issue.   The education provided by the Panel and Dr. Sally Spencer definitely brought us  ONE MORE step closer to making mental health discussions more comfortable and more acceptable.

Coming up tomorrow, is the Contracts 101 education program.  We partnered with NECA to offer this course to their members as well.  Joint programming, like this one, positions CFMA as a leading industry resource, and expands the networking reach of our members.

While many of our partnerships focus on education, some partnerships allow us to give back.  For the second year, the Community Outreach Committee and chapter volunteers will participate in National Rebuilding Day, on Saturday, April 29, to repair a home in the Chicago area.  If you are interested in helping, see the article below, or check out the Community Outreach page on our website by clicking here.

Our chapter is accepting applications for this summer's Intern Program.  The Intern Award Program makes a difference in a student's educational experience and career planning by partnering General Member companies with accounting students.

These are just a few examples of how CFMA works with all its partners to benefit the whole.  It goes without saying that our members are our greatest partners.  Ultimately, it is your participation, leadership, committee involvement and sponsorship, that have helped the Chicago chapter grow to record membership.  If there is ONE MORE I can do for our chapter to help you be successful, I would love to hear it.  I hope to see you at our annual meeting  on March 23 rd where we will share with you our plans for programs and enhanced partnerships in the year ahead.

2017 CFMA Peer Group Program
In response to member demand, CFMA is facilitating the establishment of Peer Groups for members seeking to improve their companies through information sharing and feedback with their fellow construction financial managers in non-competing regions and markets.

After a successful pilot program in 2015-16, CFMA has made program improvements and is pleased to offer participation in our Peer Group Program to all General members.  Click Here to learn more.
