Letter from the President

Can you believe summer is around the corner?  Before we look ahead to warm sunny days and backyard parties, I wanted to reflect back to the beginning of the year.  In January, I talked about making resolutions and encouraged each of you to resolve to get the most of your CFMA membership. Are you getting the most of your membership?

We often get so busy in our daily grind that we lose sight of the opportunities available to us through our CFMA membership.  For example, National automatically registers you for their monthly webinars. Webinars are always free to CFMA members and provide at least 1 CPE credit.  Have you joined a committee? Are you studying for your CCIFP? Did you know you can take the test at a predetermined testing site, on your schedule, anytime you're ready? Would Chapter incentives help get you started?  More to come on that, and other initiatives in the coming months.

Summertime doesn't mean we have to take a break from our resolutions. There are many events and educational programs planned over the next few months; starting with National Conference .  Will I see you in Vegas?  Our chapter is known for having one of the largest representations at Conference, lets keep it up.

Next month we are partnering with the Construction Industry Alliance for Suicide Prevention (CIASP) and AGC to host a Suicide Prevention Workshop.  In 2017 we held an educational program as part of CFMA's journey to promote awareness of mental health and suicide prevention.  The upcoming interactive workshop continues the journey as we focus on creating caring cultures within our companies; elevating their efforts towards safety and mental health programs.  Prior attendance at a CIASP workshop is not required to participate.  More information, including who should attend, can be found below.

We will round out the summer months with a Summer Social at Lagunitas brewery in July, and our Annual Golf Outing in August.  Both events will sell-out, so don't delay.  Resolve to register today!  I look forward to seeing you this summer!

BUILDING STRENGTH

A reliable advisor who understands construction is a valuable business asset. CLA considers the unique financial, tax, operational, and strategic needs of construction companies.

You get more than numbers and reports from CliftonLarsonAllen - you will develop a personal connection with our people. We've immersed ourselves in the industry and work closely with contractors, bonding agents, and bankers.
We help owners and leaders:
* Plan for long-term financial success
* Identify information needed to make good business decisions
* Understand how business investments will affect financial position, commitments and opportunities for growth.

Effective safety cultures are "caring cultures."
This collaborative two-hour interactive program will help companies elevate their efforts towards safety and mental health programs.  While most safety initiatives focus on getting our employees home safely, we must also ensure that our workers return safely and healthy the next day.

Participation will help you understand that mental illness is an illness that creates production, safety and performance problems; resulting in both capital and human costs to our businesses.  Leave this workshop prepared to create awareness in your organization and implement lifesaving mental health support programs.

Are you an Emerging Leader?
Do you have an Emerging Leader in your organization?

CFMA Chicago's Emerging Leaders Committee was established in 2015 to provide educational and mentoring opportunities to young professionals in the Construction Financial Industry.  Emerging Leaders are not required to be paying members, but they must work for a company that is represented with a CFMA Chicago Chapter member.  Emerging Leaders must 35 years or younger to participate.

Throughout the year, members of the Emerging Leaders are encouraged to attend educational and monthly programs, provide fresh ideas and input for programming, coordinate a chapter sponsored charity activity, and participate in social mentoring events with the Chapter's Past Presidents.
