SWN Boosts STEM Learning
STEM-based learning continues to be an important part of school curriculums.
Its diverse nature offers educators creative and unique opportunities
to convey key skills and concepts.

Often, resources for projects are limited and selections are driven by available funding.
Thanks to grants made possible through Southwestern Energy (SWN) and the Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley (CFOV), local educators will
now be equipped with additional resources to offer even more
to their students when it comes to STEM.
The grant opportunity demonstrates SWN’s ongoing commitment to STEM education and supports the energy company’s desire to be an active corporate
citizen while enhancing elements of education.

This year, students from 21 classrooms representing all grade levels in Marshall, Ohio and Wetzel counties will benefit from these awards which total $9,934.29. To date, $37,235.04 has been granted to support projects in 80 Ohio Valley classrooms.
Mythbusting for Nonprofits
A recent blog post by Joan Garry's offers some really fantastic and thought-provoking
myths about a nonprofit's business position.

We found Myth #4 to be particularly worthy of busting as we believe organizations of all types, sizes and resources should have the tools and plans they need to secure things
for a rainy day, an extended slump or an exciting expansion!

What is Myth #4? Read the blog to find out!

We LOVE sharing the fantastic resources available through the Candid suite of tools with our area's nonprofits. We really love how so many organizations have been able to
benefit from our gift bag program.

Since announcing the incentives, we've welcomed 11 organizations
to the Elizabeth Stifel Kline Nonprofit Resource Center!

Let's keep that momentum going! We want to host 25 organizations by June 30!

Shining a Light on Reentry
Slide from presentation by United States Attorney's Office, Prevention & Reentry Coordinator
Part of our work as a community leadership organization allows our team to take part in educational opportunities to expand our knowledge of known,
emerging or expanding challenges.

Last month, we highlighted challenges within the child care sector.

This month, we're turning our attention to challenges associated with reentry after incarceration, a complicated topic with many layers. While that may seem bleak, there is good news! Many organizations across the Ohio Valley engage in work to support those getting back on their feet, including a Reentry Council based in Wheeling.

Recently, members of CFOV's Women's Giving Circle took part in an immersive reentry simulation experience. Susie Nelson, CFOV's executive director, is also a member of the WGC and put her experience on paper.

We invite you to read her narrative and approach it with an open mind.
We guarantee you'll be more informed and we all know information is power!

CFOV and FDO - a Partnership to Support Your Organization!
We invite you to accept our invitation to explore the resources available through
Foundation Directory Online!

Grant seekers of all experience levels can benefit from this comprehensive service!
Plus, there's no time limit attached to your research when you use CFOV's resource center!

As a member of Candid's Funding Information Network, CFOV can share free public access to
databases and resources designed with grant seekers in mind.

The Foundation Directory Online (FDO) is a GIANT database of funding opportunities.
Thanks to CFOV, this resource was previously available on the campus of Wheeling University
some years ago and under the umbrella of the Foundation Center.
After some rebranding and fine tuning, the service is now a Candid product.

Not only is it much more robust, but it is available
in our building and we'd love to see YOU!

CFOV's commitment to area nonprofits is certainly strengthened through this partnership.
A dedicated space on the second floor of our building serves as a nonprofit resource center
and features workstations connected to the FDO.

When you are ready, reach out to us and make a reservation to use the
dedicated FDO database space on our second floor.

We look forward to supporting your grant seeking and thank the
Elizabeth Stifel Kline Foundation for providing the funding that allows
us to offer this resource to our community!
