COVID-19 - CFOV's Update

It is no secret COVID-19 (coronavirus) is making an impact on all our lives.  The true impact of related closures and reduced services remains unknown, but we do know the important work being done by our area's nonprofit organizations will very likely become even more necessary.

We are hopeful that what comes our way can be managed and it is in that spirit we are taking guidance from public health and government entities to heart.

Adjustments to our work and operational efforts have been made in response to recommended precautions, including working remotely.  While certain aspects of our work may be delayed, it is our intention to continue serving our donors, grantees and partners during this time of uncertainty.

Phone messages will be returned as soon as possible.

We've created a resources page to help link organizations to valuable information related to funding opportunities, relief efforts and more.  Check it out!

In the meantime, practice recommended distancing protocols,  cough into your elbow, wash your hands and be kind - we're in this together.
Support the Emergency Impact Fund
In response to the mounting challenges created by COVID-19 (coronavirus),
the Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley (CFOV) has created an
Emergency Impact Fund to provide operating grants to organizations
in the Foundation's eight-county service area working to
maintain services  with decreasing means of support.

While the long-term impact of the pandemic remains unknown, organizations working to fulfill already critical needs are feeling strain, which is resulting in new challenges.  This presents an opportunity for the community to gather and deploy resources in a responsive, unified and flexible way.

Individuals, corporations, donor advisors and private foundations are encouraged to join CFOV in these supportive efforts by making a gift to the fund.

All gifts are tax-deductible and will be used to support
local organizations as they adjust to changing demands.

Contributions to the Emergency Impact Fund can be made by making a check payable to CFOV, with Emergency Impact Fund in the memo line, and mailing to 1226 Chapline Street, Wheeling, WV 26003.

Field of Interest Grants Awarded

As part of its commitment to supporting nonprofits in the area,
the Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley (CFOV) has awarded
grants totaling $27,022 to twelve organizations.

The grants are made possible through CFOV's field of interest funds.  These funds were established by donors who had an affinity for an area of focus or location, rather than a specific organization, and entrusted the Foundation to identify beneficiaries.  By design, field of interest funds can provide responsive opportunities which allows Foundation staff to use knowledge of community needs when making grant recommendations.  Honoring the charitable intention and structure of each fund is required.

Given the ongoing challenges presented by the COVID-19 crisis, CFOV views these grant awards as a way to support organizations continually working provide services and improvements across the Foundation's eight-county service area.  And while not every field of interest fund is directed toward an organization directly facing COVID-19 challenges, the totality of the work being done represents broad dedication, strength and resiliency for which the region is known.
