COVID-19 - CFOV's Update

It is no secret COVID-19 (coronavirus) will be making an impact on all our lives over the next few weeks at the very least.  The true impact of related closures and reduced services remains unknown, but we do know the important work being done by our area's nonprofit organizations will very likely become even more necessary.

We are hopeful that what comes our way can be managed and it is in that spirit we are taking guidance from public health and government entities to heart.

Adjustments to our work and operational efforts have been made in response to recommended precautions, including working remotely.  While certain aspects of our work may be delayed, it is our intention to continue serving our donors, grantees and partners during this time of uncertainty.

In the meantime, cough into your elbow, wash your hands and be kind - we're in this together.

Criminal Justice Reform Grant Opportunity
Please explore this exciting opportunity hosted by the
Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation (TGKVF), in partnership
with the Chan Zuckerburg Initiative.

The Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation (TGKVF) and the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI) have launched a partnership that will support criminal justice reform efforts in West Virginia.

Today, 2.3 million people are incarcerated in our jails and prisons and over 70 million people have a criminal conviction on their permanent record making it difficult to find a job, secure housing, or even vote in some states. Our system of mass incarceration means that nearly half of all children in the US have a parent with a criminal record.

While we do not believe that our criminal justice system is broken, we believe that the justice system must be redesigned, with community health and safety at its core, and with those directly impacted - presently and formerly incarcerated persons, crime survivors, law enforcement, families, and communities - at the helm of its transformation. It is critical that we work to redesign the justice system, otherwise it will continue to create barriers to success for generations to come. Our collective commitment is to learn from, and be an excellent partner to, those closest to the work. CZI and TGKVF are not going to reform the justice system. But we hope to collaborate with and empower those who will.

Information sessions concerning this exciting grant opportunity will be held in Charleston on April 8 and in Morgantown on April 9. For questions about the grant information sessions, contact Derek Vance at dvance@tgkvf.org or 304.346.3620 x19.

Training Opportunity

Update: This training has been postponed, but the link offers instruction as to how you can be advised of the new dates!

Our friends at Volunteer West Virginia are hosting a grant writing training at the end of April!  This two-day event might be just what you need to sharpen your skills!

The CFOV team is ALWAYS happy to see organizations take steps that result in stronger requests for support.

STILL Wanted: CLIP Hosts!

Play a role in inspiring the next generation
of our area's young professionals!

We are always interested in adding to our list of businesses that may be a good fit for a placement.  There is absolutely zero cost to a business to host.

Hosts are asked to provide relevant experience, mentorship and connection - this program could identify a future employee!

Each class of CLIP participants features a different array of career interests so the specific host needs change from year to year.  Serving as a host is a fantastic way to join us in supporting our efforts to retain our region's emerging professionals.

If your business would like to learn more about joining these efforts, please  reach out to Debbie or call 304-242-3144!
