Record Number of Grant Applicants Indicates Community Need

The Fall 2025 Grant Application intake saw 36 applications come in, with over $760,000 in funding requested from the CFPD. This indicates that local community groups are struggling to run programs and projects they feel are important to the citizens of Portage la Prairie and area. With just over $200,000 in funds available to grant out this cycle, this leaves a number of gaps in needs being met--highlighting just how important the community's donations are at growing the Smart & Caring Community Fund to try to meet these needs.

CFPD Will be Closed in Honour of Remembrance Day

In honour of, and respect for, Remembrance Day on November 11th, we will be closing our office on this day to reflect upon the sacrifices made by our veterans in the past, so that we can enjoy the safe and free country we live in today.

The 2025 'Giving Challenge' is Nov.10-16

CFPD will again be participating in the Endow Manitoba Giving Challenge this November. Many people step up and donate during this week, when a portion of the donations are stretched by the Manitoba Government and The Winnipeg Foundation. As the end of the year approaches, people are starting to think about charitable giving, and don't want to wait for the holidays to make donations to the causes that matter most to them. If you'd like to help us make a difference, and give back to your community in a meaningful way, please reach out to us either in person, over the phone, via email, or on our website donation page.

CFPD Shares Impact Stories

As it is November, the month of Remembrance, we felt it was fitting for this month's Impact Story to highlight a grant awarded to the Portage Royal Canadian Legion Branch #65 in the spring of 2025, for a kitchen appliance upgrade project.

Valued Donors Featured by CFPD

This month, we are so pleased to feature a new fund set up by local citizens Dr. Brett Finney and Dana Geisel. Brett and Dana wanted to assist individuals pursuing post-secondary education, who would not have the financial means to do so if it weren't for their fund. With their initial $100,000 contribution into their fund, this means many individuals over time will benefit in a life-changing way. If you would also like to donate to this fund, select the Geisel-Finney Future Fund from the drop-down of our Make a Donation page by selecting the "Donate Now" button.
