CFRA has created a legislative update that wraps up the year at the Capitol. It provides information about Governor Brown's year as his final term comes to a close, the political climate for the next election, and bills that CFRA and CAPC have supported throughout the year. Public Charge

Comment Period Open Now

The public charge Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) was posted, October 5, for public inspection. As of October 10, DHS published the rule for a 60 day public comment period. The last day to submit a comment is December 10. Anyone from the general public has an opportunity to weigh in on proposed regulations before they are final. You do not have to be a US citizen, over the age of 18, and eligible to vote to submit a comment.

CFRA has joined over 1,100 other organizations in signing onto an opposition statement from Center for Law and Social Policy (CLASP).

National Immigration Law Center (NILC) has a great resource on how to talk to immigrant families and how this may apply to them. In addition, NILC and CLASP partnered to launch a website specifically for public charge news with resources and how to take action.

Individuals can submit a comment directly, or use a template from Protect Immigrant Families.

CFRA's Monthly Policy Calls

Every fourth Friday of the month, CFRA updates members to discuss state and federal legislation which impacts the family strengthening field. We have representatives throughout the state to give the varying perspectives of our diverse clients and regions. To participate in our next call, register here.
