CFSA Staff on the Move: A Plan for New Adventures Opens the Door for New Opportunities

Lianne Lewellen, CFSA's risk analyst for the past 18 years and a CFSA employee for a total of 26 years, has announced her plans to retire in March of next year. As our risk analyst, Lianne works closely with fairgrounds on both the Special Events and Contract Review programs, and is also a valuable resource for information about all of CFSA's pool programs.

Lianne reviews an average of more than 3,000 vendor and renter contracts/certificates of insurance each year. She also provides one-on-one training at fair grounds on the importance of the review service. If a contract or certificate is found to be incomplete, Lianne works with insurance companies to correct the error or omission, which, in turn, facilitates CFSA's ability to transfer liability away from the fairground and CFSA's pool program to the responsible parties.

To ensure that the services Lianne provides continue seamlessly after her retirement, Mario Castagnola, currently a member of the Risk Control team, will begin assisting Lianne in January and will step into the risk analyst's full role in March. With more than five years experience conducting fair facility safety inspections and training fair staff to recognize and mitigate potential hazards, Mario brings valuable knowledge to his new position within the Risk Management department.

Attending the 2019 WFA Convention and Trade Show? Stop by CFSA's trade show booth, #527, to wish Lianne an early "best of luck on your new adventures," and to meet Mario, if you haven't already had the opportunity.

2019 Employee Right-to-Know Posters are Available Through the California Chamber of Commerce

Next year will be this year before you know it, so get a jump on 2019 and order your fair's employee right-to-know posters before the glittery ball drops. Kevin Wright, CFSA's Purchasing agent, recommends that fairs purchase updated 2019 all-in-one posters from the California Chamber of Commerce at  https://store.calchamber.com/

Poster prices  start at $28.49 and posters are available in English and in Spanish. Discount-priced kits with updated posters and employee pamphlets are also available.

Purchasing your employee posters and pamphlets from the Cal Chamber ensures that they are up-to-date and that they reflect all new California employment laws. The all-in-one poster measures 28" x 44," and is made up of the 18 state and federal employment notices all California employers must post - even those with just one employee.

Remember, not informing employees of their rights in the workplace can result in lawsuits and fines.

CFSA's trade show booth in 2018 was a popular destination for conversation and handfuls of M&Ms.

helpingFairs Helping Fairs:  " Camp Fire Shelter Relief Brought by San Mateo Fair Workers"

In a December 19th online news article in Patch, staff writer Sue Wood highlights the eye-opening experiences encountered by staff from the San Mateo County Event Center while volunteering at the Butte County Fairgrounds during the devastating Camp Fire.

Here's a link to the full article and photos.

CFSA salutes the team spirit of the Network of California Fairs who always step up to lend a hand to each other in a time of need. We also want to make a special shout out to our own Lesly Wade, CFSA Risk Control supervisor, who spent multiple days at the Butte County Fairgrounds coordinating the schedules and duties of the visiting fair staff.
