FROM THE PRESIDENT
Updates on the swarm of wildfires active in our Western States Region—This by the State Federation Presidents:
Washington: Lots of smoke, and the air is horrible from multiple fires. Checked in with our Spokane clubs and am thankful to report that to my knowledge no one has lost their homes. But many buildings and neighborhoods devastated there; we could use some rain desperately.
Idaho: Smoke is awful, otherwise ok.
Montana: Clubs are doing okay for now—just smoke issues; fires for the most are not affecting people.
Wyoming: Wyoming is okay. The Devil’s Tower fire was quickly contained. Experiencing lots of smoke, heavier as you travel north. Canada wildfires contributing to smoke.
Oregon: No fires near our clubs now, was close a week ago. Smoke is terrible, but the wind is going to change tomorrow.
Idaho: Lots of smoke, air is bad.
Utah: Fires very scary this year. Clubs are okay right now. Earlier South Mountain Fire and the Iron fire surrounding us (Stockton) and in Utah have created very poor air quality. It makes for stunning sun sets though.
Nevada: We’re pretty safe here in Nevada! A few fires burning but not near any clubs, mostly on open land. Southern Nevada fire fighters went north to help near Ely. Just roasting from extreme heat warnings over a week now.
Colorado: Colorado clubs are ok. Many devastating fires in the state including the one by Grand Junction that took the lives of 4 firefighters and the one near Buelah that destroyed over 300 homes and businesses. Some of the clubs are helping to collect supplies for these communities, the smoke is still a major concern across the state.
