FROM THE DESK OF THE PRESIDENT

BREAK! Hi all, it is break time for your President. I had all sorts of plans about this week’s QuickByte, after all, we are scheduled for Week #8’s edition in my Team Building Assets as we continue our series of 10. Instead, today I am inserting adding a new Asset, it is unplanned and will take us to a series of 11, but here goes: REST & GRATITUDE.

This week is about rest and gratitude. Let us take REST first. I am tired, not physically, but mentally. The toll that weigh us down need to be welcomed: it means we did our job! But further, it is a sign to stop and rest. For me it becomes house, home, family, garden, self-care time that is much needed for my peace. No one person can do it all, no one person can go on forever.

Further, I am sure that many of you are tired as well. We had a fabulous 19-days of meetings; I am not done, some of you are not either…my District Meeting is coming up this Friday, the 25th and Saturday the 26th is the Western States Region Conference. But today it is time for me to rest. So far today I have meditated, answered a few emails. Shopped for my Grocery Lottery pick-up later today, (I order and we see what comes), puttered about in the tomatoes, corn, and green beans, and I am still in my PJ’s: what a glorious thing to rest!

I encourage you to embrace and enjoy rest when you need it; there is nothing wrong with saying “I am tired today and let go of the impending to-do list”. Rest will scream at you until you listen.

Now for GRATITUDE! Gratitude should be a daily practice; we all have things to be grateful for every day we wake up and take in the beauty of the day. I have a habit of saying my gratitude’s in the evening, starting with being grateful for my day.

Gratitude can go further, I have so many of you to be grateful for in creating a perfection of Meetings that culminated for me at 4 pm yesterday, Saturday the 19th of September.

I am so grateful for the help and support each of you showed and extended to help make the CFWC Fall Executive Board Meetings a success. For they were a success and that was by the grace and help of so many people. Shout out to you ALL! I am only one person and so incredibly grateful to have a Team of Fabulous California Federation Members, Chairs, and Officers working to make this Team Federation Strong. I am grateful you said “yes” when I called and grateful for your help and ideas: Thank You!

Many cards need to be sent from me to others, but not today, for I am at rest. However, rest does not mean I cannot feel love and gratitude for each of you in my heart. Thank you!

Luv, Pam

Many Thanks to Peggy Baumann, CFWC Inspirational Chair, for sharing the poem she read at the recent CFWC Board Meeting.

Facebook 101 Profile vs. Page

There are many social network platforms now in 2020 (twitter, facebook, instagram, pinterest, tiktok, etc.) and as growing clubs we need to find a way to engage a new way of doing media for non profits. Facebook has over one billion monthly active Facebook users, chances are that you have heard of or are currently participating in this online platform. Our reality as non profits is that media has changed. Some of our groups still have access to a newspaper to get our word out, but as we are getting into 2020 we are finding fewer and fewer newspapers that are able to exist in this media marketplace. However, we now have many new platforms we can use for growth. We are going to begin with Facebook because it still to this day has billions of people that spend money and time on this platform and then hopefully by the end of this year we can begin to move into several other platforms such as twitter and instagram. Today we are going to look at Facebook Page vs. Profile –

On June 23, 1936 the last Sunday in September was designated as Gold Star Mother’s Day by a joint resolution of Congress. It is a holiday that continues to be observed every year by presidential proclamation. The name came about from the custom of military families who put a service flag near their front window. A star on the flag represented a family member serving in the military. In 2011, President Obama amended the proclamation declaring the day to include families as well as mothers. Today the holiday recognizes any immediate family member and authorizes that family to display the Gold Star flag. This year, Gold Star Mother’s and Family Day falls on September 27. It is a day for honoring the families of those who have received The Gold Star – the military award that no one wants. American Gold Star Mother’s Inc. is an organization whose members have lost a son or daughter while serving in the military in times of conflict. The mission of the organization is one of remembrance, education, and patriotism. In pre-COVID times they would hold annual conferences and organize events with supporting groups. Try Googling Gold Star Chapters in California to see if there’s an activity or project in which your club can participate.

GFWC was sad to announce that Shelby P. Hamlett, 2000–2002 International President, passed away on September 14, 2020 Those privileged to call Shelby a friend agree she personified Mary Stewart’s Collect for Clubwomen. She touched and knew “the great, common human heart of us all.” Shelby’s grace, kindness, and generous spirit will always be remembered. read article in GFWC News & Notes
