February 9, 2026

FROM THE DESK OF THE PRESIDENT

Dear Members and Friends,

February hosts several notable events, such as Valentine’s Day, Groundhog Day, Lunar New Year, Lincoln’s Birthday, the discovery of DNA, NAACP’s founding, Black History Month, World Cancer Day, International Mother Language Day, and sometimes Leap Day. Despite being the shortest month, it is full of important cultural and historical observances.

Presidents’ Day, originally created to mark George Washington’s birthday on February 22, now honors all U.S. presidents and is observed on the third Monday of February.

CFWC clubs throughout California will be engaged in numerous activities during February 2026, focusing on community service, health education, and leadership development. Notable events include the Casino Night fundraiser in Canoga Park on February 14, the Holistic Health Fair in Fullerton on February 15, and the CFWC Winter Board Meeting in Santa Clara from February 26 to 28. Clubs emphasize initiatives centered on cardiovascular health.

Clubs may consider promoting American Heart Month through organized healthy cooking classes, walking groups, or contributions to the American Heart Association. February also presents an excellent opportunity for membership recruitment and expanded community outreach.

We are more than a Federation; we are a community committed to meaningful change. Thank you for your contributions.

Yours in Federation and Love, Sonya

CIVIC ENGAGEMENT and OUTREACH - ANNE COCHRAN, Chair

This will be the week of love for our veterans. It will soon be Valentine’s Day and we can show our gratitude and love with spending time with active and retired veterans. While you are visiting them present with a red rose or a beautiful Valentine’s Day card. Sending cards out to veterans is still a thing so here is a idea -  send cards to a veterans facility near you this week.

The Earth Day Experience - 17 Years of Free Festivals

Kati Mendoza (Woman’s Club of Vista) and her 3-year old son enjoyed their day at Alta Vista Botanical Gardens in April last year at the Earth Day Festival. “In the Children’s Garden there were seven different craft stations for the kids to participate hands-on. The activities were organized and supervised by Donna Weber, a member of our Club. We planted sunflower seeds, played with worms, made a noodle necklace, colored a butterfly picture, and used leaves to make a self-portrait. We took our sunflower plantings home, put them in our home garden and had beautiful tall sunflowers many months later.” The event provides a positive outdoor experience and was attended by 800 people. The 18th Earth Day Festival will be held on April 18, 2026 in Vista. We love sharing nature!

What is your Club or District offering to celebrate Earth Day 2026? Please share with Farmer Jones.

ARTS & CULTURE - KELLY DAVIS, Chair

Veterans are individuals who serve in the U.S. armed forces - including Reserve and National Guard - discharged under conditions other than Dishonorable.

Project Title: Vets 4 Veterans Hrs 92. Donated: $1,168.00  In Kind $500.00.

Our club, Hughes-Elizabeth Lakes Woman’s Club, strongly supports Vet 4 Veterans. They work to help get veterans that have left the service to get back into society. Teaching them skills to get not just a job but a career to last a lifetime. They also help those who are on the streets to get housing, with drug and alcohol issues, and to become a working and contributing member of the community.

This organization planned a fund raiser that they do annually - A Car Show. This attracts many local groups and not just car enthusiasts. We donated a quilt that was made to support the theme. It had blocks with many cars and was very appreciated by them. They raffled the quilt and it added to the fundraiser which made us very happy. It was an honor to provide food for the lunch 4 times this year. We made sandwiches, lasagna, fruits and veggies, potato salad, cakes, and cobbler and more. We donated money - $500.00 and $50.00 in $25.00 gift cards for Christmas for the veterans and our money spent on food was $168.00. Our ladies worked 92 hours including making a quilt that was donated for a fundraiser they were holding for a raffle.

We will continue to be supporters of this very worthwhile organization.

NOMINATING COMMITTEE - LINDA KOONTZ, Chair

As you all know the deadline to turn in endorsements if running for a CFWC office is February 10th. Unfortunately, we did not receive endorsements for Financial Secretary and Area C VP. Our state needs you.

Please read your Bylaws to see what is needed to be nominated from the floor if you’re still thinking about running for an office. Also don’t hesitate to contact the officer who is coming to the end of her term to find out further information regarding either of these offices.

Our Nominating Committee will be meeting at Winter Board and interviewing the prospective candidates. I will be handing out cards to the prospective candidates as to what time they will be interviewed. Any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Safe travels and see you soon!
