FROM THE DESK OF THE PRESIDENT

Dear Members and Friends,

As leaders progress, it's essential for them to set an example by demonstrating the behaviors they wish to see in others—staying calm, optimistic, and professional, particularly during challenging times. Inclusivity is crucial: all members should feel welcomed, valued, and motivated to get involved, no matter how long they've been with the club.

Leaders ought to promote teamwork and collaborative decision-making rather than a top-down approach. Transitioning from simply "doing" tasks to facilitating member involvement helps boost engagement within the club. Listening attentively and recognizing members' efforts and contributions—whether time, work, or donations—is fundamental. It's vital to emphasize that every member can attend GFWC meetings and to keep club activities dynamic and pertinent.

Spotting and cultivating future leaders early on is important; providing growth opportunities and mentoring new members can help sustain leadership. Developing a well-organized transition plan for incoming officers ensures smooth continuity and effective knowledge sharing. Consistent attendance and meeting responsibilities are mandatory. Should you be unable to finish a task, promptly notify the leadership. Always seek ways to enhance the club, regardless of your official position, and make sure that your actions support the broader mission, recognizing that the organization’s goals extend beyond individual interests.

Membership offers a chance to make an impact locally and beyond. Clubs are encouraged to attend District and Area Conferences.

All members are welcome at CFWC Board Meetings. The Winter Board Meeting will be at Delta Marriott Hotel, 2151 Laurelwood Road, Santa Clara, CA, from February 26–28, 2026. LEADS candidates will join Vicki Holden, Leadership Chairman, for the LEADS Workshop—a chance to connect with emerging leaders.

If you haven't registered for the Winter Board, do so soon. The hotel block deadline is February 10. Reserve by calling the hotel at 408-988-8411 and mention our organization.

Looking forward to seeing you in Santa Clara!

Yours in Federation and Love,

Sonya

CIVIC ENGAGEMENT and OUTREACH - ANNE COCHRAN, Chair

Local communities across the U.S. are actively standing up against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) through nationwide protests, advocacy, and legislative efforts, spurred by recent controversial actions and a tragic event in Minneapolis, demanding accountability, protection for immigrants, and limits on ICE's power, with organizers coordinating actions like "ICE Out For Good" events and legislative pushes like the "Melt ICE Act" to call for reform and community safety.

We need to protect our communities by getting involved.

Food recycling serves as a dual solution to food insecurity and environmental conservation. Environment Chairman Veronica Gonzalez reported that members of the Rossmoor Women’s Club actively support and volunteer for Food Finders bi-monthly. This vital project focuses on sorting and packing surplus or unused food and delivering the packages to local schools and non-profits for distribution to families in need. The project mitigates the environmental consequences associated with food production and waste. This project is a win-win! Food Banks are another way to support families and children who might go hungry on the weekend, during holidays, or during the summer.
