March 2, 2026

FROM THE DESK OF THE PRESIDENT

Dear Members and Friends,

March features several notable events: the equinox on March 20 signals spring in the Northern Hemisphere; a total lunar eclipse will be visible across the U.S. on March 3, which is also World Wildlife Day and National Anthem Day in the U.S., marking the adoption of “The Star-Spangled Banner” in 1931.

International Women’s Day, held annually on March 8, aims to promote awareness of gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence against women. The theme for 2026, “Rights, Justice, Action. FOR ALL Women and Girls,” encourages concerted efforts to eliminate legal and social barriers to equality.

GFWC California has completed its reports and statistics, reflecting both relief and pride. The quantity of projects, volunteer hours, funds raised, funds spent, and in-kind donations recorded is impressive. I express sincere appreciation to our members for their outstanding contributions toward community transformation. With 10,141 members and 208 general clubs and two Juniorette clubs CFWC continues to make a notable impact. The range of innovative and distinctive projects submitted highlights the achievements of our clubs and districts. Thank you for your ongoing commitment and for setting an example through your dedicated efforts to support others.

Yours in Federation and Love,

Sonya

CFWC FLOAT IN 1990 ROSE PARADE

The 1990 Tournament of Roses Parade Theme was “A World of Harmony.”

To celebrate our 100 years, members of the GFWC California Federation of Women’s Clubs entered this float in that parade. The float theme was “Working Together Our Grand Tradition.”

CFWC Members from throughout California worked to raise $75,000 + to cover expenses, Tickets were sold to have a chance on winning an opportunity to ride on the float.

Your club can participate in community cleanups for Earth Day. Start one or join one - and help clean up your town! Lynnda Martin (Shafter Woman’s Club) reported that club members took separate routes from their homes and picked up litter along the way during last year’s Earth Day event. They met up at a coffee shop to share about their pickin’s.

Farmer Jones helps organize and publicize monthly sessions for “Only Losers Litter” in Vista. We meet at a different spot each month, then fan out and pick up trash of every sort - wishing the whole time that people would take those last ten steps to stash their trash where it belongs. With five local ladies participating on February 13, we collected two large trash bags of litter, almost too heavy to lift into my truck. A cooperative business is happy to take our monthly trash collections to honor our dedication to cleaning up our town.

Let us know what your club plans to do for Earth Day 2026!

CIVIC ENGAGEMENT and OUTREACH - ANNE COCHRAN, Chair

Soon it will be the Naval Reserve's Birthday, March 3rd in which veteran or active should be honored. Let’s take the time to appreciate and to pass a smile with a cup of Joe to them. Our time is now for Spring cleaning so with this incentive lets show our active and retired service men and women how generous we can be.
