NOT FOR DISTRIBUTION OUTSIDE OF CGB

CGB Connect Newsletter | September 2023

CGB Connect is your connection to the people, activities, and service highlights that drive CGB’s culture and make our company great!

A NOTE FROM OUR CEO

Hello CGB Team,

Welcome to our first edition of CGB Connect! Culture is a key component of why organizations have sustained success. And always worth mentioning - as we know from our mission statement - safety, behaving ethically, and profitability are also crucial components of who we are. Keeping our focus on these components both creates and maintains our success – as it has for the past 54 years! Each and every one of us is creating and shaping our culture every day. The beliefs and thoughts each of us have drive our daily behaviors and interactions. And there’s no doubt, your actions are the reason for our record success at CGB!

The goal of CGB Connect is to both spotlight and serve the people of CGB. We will spotlight our team members, events, and divisional updates. This will also serve as a regular resource on what is beneficial for you, as a CGB team member.

If you have information you’d like to share in CGB Connect, please submit it to [email protected].

It’s really encouraging to see so many of you interacting on Workplace. We hope that CGB Connect will be just as helpful of a resource for each one of us to stay connected.

Stay Safe, and Take Care of Yourself and Each Other!

Eric

President/CEO

IT'S WHO WE ARE

Recently, David Lee Baker with the Deep South Region caught up with Jr. Trader, Shaye Lingo, to chat about her career path here at CGB. Shaye is also part of the Deep South region and is in the current class of Lead, Retain, Grow (LRG) - CGB's Women's Mentoring Program.

IT'S WHAT WE DO

CTLC Project Cargo- Andrew DeLuca

This spring, CTLC's project cargo team had the privilege of working with a valued customer to deliver 8x stainless steel tanks from Wisconsin to Alabama.

CTLC managed the loading/unloading of hopper barges, marine logistics services, and everything in between to ensure that these tanks made it safely to their destination. In total, there were two separate barge voyages, each hauling 4x tanks per barge. Each voyage covered 1,044 miles across three different river segments. Thanks to all of the trusted partners involved in this project for ensuring these tanks were delivered on time and within budget.

Itochu's Concord Tour- Emma Morgan

At the beginning of August, Wade Hart, David Ksaizkiewicz, and Emma Morgan had the opportunity to help lead Itochu’s Concord tour. This was the first tour since 2019. They had 15 participants, including Itochu employees and their customers. Along the tour, they made several stops, showcasing US agriculture and current crop conditions. They visited with CGB farmers, learned how to estimate corn yields, and learned about CGB’s IP (identity preserved) testing and handling procedures. They also visited with Pioneer/Corteva to learn about the steps for creating a hybrid or conventional seed that will meet the needs of our producers, customers, and consumers.

Overall, they had a great week spending time and interacting with our shareholders and their customers!

UPDATES

Safety Update

Commentary provided by Paul Gooch, Safety Director

Grain dust is a by-product of handling grain, and we all understand the hazards of poor housekeeping. Housekeeping and controlling ignition sources are real issues we must deal with daily, if not multiple times a day, and are at the top of my list when I visit locations. This article is going to focus on the housekeeping part. In July, an explosion at an agricultural cooperative in Brazil killed eight and injured nearly a dozen others. In August, a fire at the French Atlantic port of La Rochelle disrupted shipping activities. There were no reported deaths.

Grain silo explosions and fires affect a company’s ability to operate or to continue to operate. The damage caused by loss of life and related injuries can affect a company’s ability to get insurance or pay much higher costs to attain proper insurance, affecting the company’s bottom line.

Therefore, through harvest this year, maintaining daily housekeeping must be a priority for everyone at the facility. When grain dust exceeds 1/8 of an inch, cleaning must begin. It is easy to see dust accumulating on ground-level equipment and floors, but we must also consider the dust on the walls, ledges, spouts, pipes, lighting, and other exposed surfaces. It’s this dust that causes second and third explosions. For more information on housekeeping, controlling ignition sources, and cleaning methods, please reference C.11 Housekeeping Program in RCI.

Upcoming Career Fairs

The Talent Acquisition team anticipates a successful and busy fall campus recruiting season. With our strategy to build our employer brand at the campus level and cast a wider net, we are continuing to add additional schools and fairs to our schedule.

The goal this season is to hire at least 11 Grain Leadership Trainees throughout the regions for the 2024 class starting in May or June. We are looking forward to interacting with students from these universities to secure diverse talent and backgrounds to CGB.

Your Health and Well-being Matters!

The biometric screenings we encourage at CGB are designed to identify and alert you to risk factors for certain diseases and medical conditions (not a diagnosis). It’s also an easy way to keep you informed of changes in your health from year to year. A wellness or preventive visit with your doctor gives you the opportunity to assess your overall health, talk through your health history and address risk factors that could potentially lead to future health problems.  Your doctor is essential to helping you and your family remain as healthy as possible. If you haven’t visited your doctor lately, consider making an appointment and earn an incentive for doing so. The wellbeing of you and your family matters!

Annual Wellness Incentive Process

Employees and spouses enrolled in one of the employer-sponsored medical plans are eligible to receive a preferred medical premium in 2024 by successfully completing a biometric screening at an Offsite Lab (LabCorp) or a physical examination at your physician's office.

All screening results need to be submitted by November 30, 2023.
