Summer Time!

Summer is in full swing, and the warm season serves as a gentle reminder to slow down, exhale, and recharge.

This year, we marked Independence Day against the backdrop of continued tension, uncertainty, and social upheaval. While July 4th remains an enduring symbol of democracy, freedom, hope, and resilience, it is also a time to reckon with the full complexity of the American story.

For many, Independence Day is a moment not only of celebration, but of reflection on a freedom that was long denied and still remains incomplete for too many.

The ideals of liberty and justice are foundational to the American Dream, but they are not equitably realized. Acknowledging that truth is essential to moving forward. As we reflect on the meaning of independence, we are reminded of the generations of leaders, activists, and everyday citizens who have fought and continue to fight to expand the promise of America for all.

Though our nation faces daunting challenges, we remain hopeful. Through collective action, courageous conversations, and an unyielding commitment to equity, we can shape a future rooted in justice and opportunity.

As always, and now more than ever, CHA remains grounded in our mission to build bridges that uplift and empower our communities toward growth, belonging, and shared prosperity.

Blessings!

Pearline B. James Dedication

On June 26, Conan was deeply honored to speak at the dedication ceremony for the late Pastor Pearline B. James, a pillar of the Mattapan community. Held on the second anniversary of her passing, the event was marked by heartfelt tributes from Mayor Michelle Wu and other local leaders, who declared June 26 as "Pastor Pearline James Day" and dedicated Malta Street in her memory.

Pastor James spent over four decades on Malta Street, raising her family and serving their neighbors through a home-based childcare center and ministry at Full Life Gospel Center. Her life of service and faith left an indelible mark on the city of Boston. Read more about the event here.
