Congratulations to Vincent “Jim” Patalano, MD, MBA, who has assumed the role of Interim Chief of Surgery at CHA.

Dr. Patalano has served as CHA’s Chief of Ophthalmology since 2001 and is a former member of the CHA Board of Trustees (2003 - 2012).

Services for New and Expecting Moms

Lactation Consultant at Cambridge Pediatrics:

Lauryl Ramakrishnan, RN, MSN, CPNP-PC, IBCLC, has joined CHA as a dedicated Lactation Consultant at Cambridge Pediatrics. Lauryl is a graduate of the MGH Institute who completed International Breast Lactation certification in 2014. She was most recently at Boston Medical Center serving an ethnically, linguistically and socioeconomically diverse population.

It is well established that human milk is the food most optimally suited to human babies. Breastfeeding has the potential to improve infant health outcomes across many dimensions, including a reduction in infant mortality among babies at highest risk. But we must not forget the all-important variable: the person feeding the baby.

High quality lactation support recognizes that first and foremost, the infant must be fed, and the person feeding the infant must be comfortable with how we reach that goal. They must feel empowered to care for their infant.

New and Expecting Mom Support Group:

CHA is starting an evening support group at Cambridge Hospital for new and expecting moms who need help managing stress and difficult emotions. This will let women share experiences in a safe and supportive environment, develop skills to manage stress and learn about bonding with their baby.

The group is open to expecting moms starting in their second trimester and to moms with babies up to 12 months. Babies are welcome to attend.

CHA Specialists in the News

Dr. Louis Liou, Division Chief of Urology, recently presented his experience with the innovative Focal Cryoablation Therapy for prostate cancer at the 11th annual Symposium on Focal Therapy and Imaging in Kyoto, Japan.

Lou also provided expert commentary on an article highlighting Erectile Dysfunction in Harvard Men’s Health Watch.

Dr. Lou Ann Bruno-Murtha , Medical Director of Infection Prevention, recently shared her insight for a Wicked Local/ Somerville Journal story on staying healthy during flu season.

Dr. Melisa Lai-Becker, site chief of emergency medicine at CHA Everett Hospital, shared tips for a story on "Kitchen First Aid" in the latest issue of Health, a national consumer health magazine ( see attached PDF ).
