#1 - Why we have changed to a virtual convention

HI FOLKS,

As we mentioned in our memo dated Sept.6th, our convention on Friday, October 14 – rather than being a face-to-face event - will be a virtual event. This decision was largely based on members’ requests, responding to recent Sask. Health cautions about the likelihood of a COVID-19 surge this fall.

We acknowledge the main disadvantage for the participants is that there are fewer opportunities for informal networking with other communities (which our presenters will try to off-set by encouraging on-line discussion).

There are advantages of a virtual convention, however, for participants:

  • There is no fee for the convention, plus no travel or hotel required.
  • You can watch the sessions from the comfort of your favourite chair.
  • We can accommodate a larger number of participants from each community.

HERE ARE SOME OF THE TOPICS THAT WE OFFER:

SESSION 1 (10:00 am to noon)

  • Protecting the quality of our lake water for the future.
  • Dr. Peter Leavitt, U. of Regina, Alice Davis, Lower Qu"Appelle Watershed Stewards, Helen Baulch, U of S Global Water Stewards, Chuck Deschamps, Ducks Unlimited
  • Response: Shawn Jaques, Interim President & CEO, Water Security Acency

SESSION 2 (1:00 pm to 2:30 pm)

  • Restructuring from an OH to a RV (RV of Turtle View, OH Pasqua Lake)
  • Fostering a lively recreation program. (RV of Coteau Beach
  • Advantages of hiring a safety officer. (RV of Candle Lake)
  • Passing a global environmental bylaw. (RM of Lakeland)
  • Revitalizing an old boat launch. (RV of Island View)
  • A newsletter for the whole community. (RV of Manitou Beach)
  • Operating our RV on a minimal budget. (RV of Lumscen Beach)
  • Implications for RMs with cottage communities that include campgrounds or that allow recreational vehicles parked on private lots.  (Garry Dixon, PARCS President)

SESSION 3 (3:00 pm to 4:00 pm)

3.1 Tobi Duck - When to consult with Advisory Services.

3.2 WE HAVE SCHEDULED A SPECIAL SPEAKER TO CONLUDE OUR VIRTUAL CONVENTION: Andrea Ulrich, THE DIRECTOR OF LEGISLATION, WHO WILL BE TELLING US ABOUT THE AMENDMENTS THAT ARE BEING PROPOSED FOR ORGANIZED HAMLETS THIS FALL - IMPORTANT TIMELY INFORMATION!
