CHATHAM BRIDGE REHABILITATION PROJECT CONTINUES WITH BRIEF, DAYTIME TRAFFIC STOPS
THIS WEEK
Starting today, Dec. 6, drivers should expect single lane closures and intermittent traffic stops on Route 3 Business
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. As the Chatham Bridge rehabilitation project continues, crews need daytime lane closures and brief traffic stops on Route 3 Business starting today, Dec. 6 to safely complete work underneath the bridge between Stafford County and the City of Fredericksburg.

Weather permitting, Route 3 Business over the Rappahannock River will be reduced from four to two travel lanes each day between 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. The 15-minute full traffic stops will occur intermittently throughout the day between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Emergency vehicles will still be able to cross the bridge during the work zone.

The daytime lane closures and brief stops will occur each day through Friday, Dec. 10.

A message board is posted to warn drivers about the scheduled traffic stops.

While Chatham Bridge opened to vehicle traffic on Oct. 10, 2021, work underneath the structure to improve the bridge’s condition continued.

The $23.4 million Chatham Bridge improvement project is expected to be complete by April 2022.

Additional information can be found on the online project page, and you can also view the work zone construction camera here.
