New City Heights Community Advocate
Join us in welcoming Sabina Villalobos as the new City Heights Community Advocate. Sabina is a City Heights resident and a recent graduate of San Diego State University with a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies. Sabina is bilingual (English-Spanish) and has extensive experience working and volunteering with organizations in City Heights. Sabina will continue the work started by Angel Soria, our previous Community Advocate, who left for Mexico City to work on a masters degree.

Over the past 2 years, CHBA has partnered with the City Heights Foundation, SAY San Diego, Price Charities, and The California Endowment to implement the City Heights Community Advocate Program. CHBA hired a full-time community advocate to train community leaders and residents on how to report issues of maintenance and security to government agencies and how to ensure that the issues are resolved. Since the program's start, the advocate and community leaders have made thousands of reports resulting in thousands of resolved maintenance and security issues.
CHBA Contributes $10,000 to Homeless Outreach Pilot Program
Last year CHBA partnered with local nonprofit organizations to establish a one-year pilot homeless outreach program in North Park and City Heights. The program hired an outreach worker to connect homeless persons to housing and other services. As of February, the program had reached over 150 homeless individuals with over 550 services contacts. The pilot program is a partnership between the City Heights Business Association, City Heights CDC, Councilmember Chris Ward, Councilmember Georgette Gomez, North Park Main Street, Price Philanthropies, and People Assisting the Homeless (PATH). We are honored to be part of such as worthwhile and successful collaborative effort.
