Your Questions Answered

During our March meeting there were questions about the election. Email us if you have more.

Is the voting Single Transferable Vote?

Yes, the voting system is Single Transferable Vote. We reached out to the vendor (RankVote.co) to confirm.

What does that even mean? Since we are having one election for all open seats once your highest ranked candidate makes the cut your vote is counted and the system moves on. You can find more info on their website.

How much time is involved if elected?

Short answer: 4-5 hours (more or less) per month would be a median commitment. This includes projected meeting hours, an hour a month for prep work, and a little extra for community engagement, but of course, that will vary by individual!

Long Answer:

This is a little hard to answer as the group is just getting started. There are probably three buckets of time. One would be a monthly 90 minute board meeting (zoom or in person), the monthly general meeting 90 minutes, and then work on issues/support (maybe another 90 minutes). That is just a guideline. While it would be nice to be at the monthly general meeting, its not required. If your passion is protecting pollinators on Capitol Hill and the monthly meeting is “How Glaciers formed Capitol Hill?” - feel free to skip it (you will be missed). But if there is a PPCH (Protecting Pollinators on Capitol Hill) Committee meeting you should be somewhat informed on what they are doing. The current bylaws have a board member rep on any committees, but they do not have to run the meetings.
