Upcoming Forum - Early Childhood Trauma Collaborative
On March 30th, CHDI is hosting a kick-off event for Connecticut's Early Childhood Trauma Collaborative at the Capitol from 8:45-11:00 am. The Early Childhood Trauma Collaborative is a five year grant awarded to CHDI from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration ( SAMHSA) as part of the National Child Traumatic Stress Network to expand trauma-focused services to young children in Connecticut.

Health Consultation in Early Childhood Settings is Focus of CHDI's Latest IMPACT
This month CHDI released an IMPACT "Promoting Children's Health in Early Care and Education Settings by Supporting Health Consultation." The IMPACT summarizes research on the role and benefits of health consultation in early learning settings, and reviews policies, regulations, training, and payment structures used to support health consultation in Connecticut and other states. Seeking Agencies to Offer Evidence-Based Treatment that Addresses Multiple Mental Health Disorders
CHDI released a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for participation in a Learning Collaborative, for the evidence-based MATCH-ADTC (Modular Approach to Therapy for Children with Anxiety,Depression, Trauma and/or Conduct Problems (MATCH-ADTC) treatment model. Six agencies or organizations in Connecticut that provide mental health services to children will be selected to receive training at no cost and will receive a small stipend. In person training requirements have been reduced from past MATCH-ADTC Learning Collaboratives, from 8.5 days to 7 days of training. Click here for additional details in the RFQ.

Research shows positive health and mental health outcomes are associated with paid family and medical leave policies. CHDI shared this information with the Labor and Public Employees Committee of the Connecticut General Assembly.

Newly Developed Infographic for School-Based Diversion Initiative


The National Center for Mental Health and Juvenile Justice (NCMHJJ) recently developed a new infographic highlighting the School-Based Diversion Initiative ( SBDI) as a national model for creating alternatives to the school-justice pathway for youth with behavioral health needs. The full infographic is available on their new website which serves as a resource to help school leaders and community stakeholders across the country to develop a School Responder Model in their local area.

Connecticut Council for Philanthropy Announces New President
Following a national search, the Board of Directors of the Connecticut Council for Philanthropy (CCP) announced that Karla Fortunato will be its new president, effective May 1. Fortunato comes to CCP with an inspiring leadership background as director of the Health and Environmental Funders Network, a national funder alliance based in Rockville, MD, where she has worked for the past 13 years.
CHDI's parent organization, the Children's Fund of Connecticut (CFC), is a member of CCP and Judith Meyers currently serves as the Chair of the CCP Board.

CHDI welcomes a new employee:

Eva Haldane is a data analyst for the Emergency Mobile Psychiatric Services (EMPS) Performance Improvement Center (PIC) and the School-Based Diversion Initiative (SBDI). Prior to joining CHDI, Haldane worked as a consultant for the Connecticut Department of Public Health.  She has a BA in Psychology from Smith, an MSW from Columbia University and is currently working on completing her PhD in Social Work at Columbia. Her interests include mental health, particularly in communities of color, childhood trauma in and out of school and removing the stigma surrounding mental health.
