Dear Researchers,

Exciting news!

We are pleased to announce CHESS is now accepting Proposals and Beam Time Requests (BTR) for the Spring 2024_2 run cycle. This is your chance to access the cutting-edge CHEXS, MacCHESS, and MSN-C beamlines from May 1 - July 2, 2024

Proposal submissions are open until February 21, 2024.

Please note, if you already have an active proposal in our BeamPASS, you can submit a new BTR until Wednesday, March 6, 2024. Proposals expire after two years. Please do not hesitate to reach out to the CHESS User Office if you need assistance with any of the submission processes.

We are thrilled to introduce BeamPASS, our new proposal platform. To help you get started, you can find important information about accessing BeamPASS and managing your login credentials here. Log in now uses CLASSE ID which is different than the User Portal login you are used too.

If you don't already have a CLASSE ID, we have made it easy for you to create one.

  • Visit the BeamPASS login page.
  • Click on the "Don’t have an account?” link, then complete the required form with your name and email. A verification link will be sent to your email address once we process the request (up to 1-2 business days)

Once created, you can use your CLASSE ID to log in and start using BeamPASS immediately. All data from the User Portal you are familiar with is live and should populate accordingly.

We are happy to continue welcoming users in person during this run, and we will continue to provide and expand remote and mail-in capabilities at our facility. We recommend checking out the CHESS Beamline Directory to learn more about each beamline’s capabilities.

Ready to get started? Submit a proposal today!

If this is your first time submitting a proposal, please refer to the Prospective User Handbook for guidance. Once a proposal has been submitted, it will be reviewed by our Safety and Peer Review partners. We will submit the first BTR to the indicated beamline on your behalf, after that it is up to you to submit subsequent BTRs as needed.

* Rapid Access proposal submission available at this beamline

MSN-C

We are happy to announce the following beamlines are available for submission. Please note that these beamlines are prioritized for Department of Defense researchers and their affiliates.

Before submitting a proposal to an MSN-C beamline, please reach out to the relevant contact person for the project.

† The Forming and Shaping Technologies (FAST) beamline at CHEXS also services the structural materials community and has an open, peer-review proposal system. If there is high demand, we often honor a “hutch swap” with FAST to give users full access to the suite of experiments possible across both beamlines.

* Rapid Access proposal submission available at this beamline

We recommend checking out the CHESS Beam line Directory to learn more about each beam line’s capabilities. You can find more information for prospective and current users on our website under the "Users" tab.
