affordable housing credit improvement act of 2025 introduced

On Tuesday, April 8th, the Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act of 2025 (AHCIA) was introduced in the United States House of Representatives with bipartisan support, including five bipartisan members of the Colorado delegation as original cosponsors. The Senate version of the bill is expected to be introduced soon with Colorado Senator Michael Bennet as an original cosponsor.

The AHCIA proposes to expand and strengthen the federal Housing Tax Credit, a critical affordable housing development tool that incentivizes private investment in the development and preservation of affordable rental housing nationwide. In Colorado, federal Housing Tax Credits have directly supported more than 80,000 units of affordable rental housing since 1986. Please visit the CHFA website to learn more about the impact of the AHCIA, as well as opportunities to support this key piece of legislation.
