June 2025| Center for Human Health and the Environment

A Note from the Director

Hello summer!

The pools are open, vacationing has started, and many of us have major research ongoing while students have no other obligations. If that doesn't have you busy, you are likely writing grants! It is a super busy time of year. Last week, CHHE received a Just in Time request from NIEHS, so we remain hopeful to hear funding notification in the near future. The NIEHS Council will meet again this coming week (6/5 at NIEHS) to make more programmatic decisions and to introduce a research concept on "Impact of Environmental Exposures on Gut-Brain Signaling in Neurological Conditions". You can watch the live webcast here. We have been busy planning the Center's upcoming events for the year, so please watch for save the dates - our summer retreat is mentioned in this issue. Mark it on your calendar! We are looking for two faculty that may want to co-chair the 10th Annual Symposium next spring - the topic is open and could be introduced to the Internal Advisory Board as early as their June meeting if you have a great idea. Please let me know if you are interested in taking on this leadership role. On another note, if you have been looking for authoritative documents that have gone away in recent months, you may be able to find them on our CHHE website. These include documents from the EPA, CDC, RoC, IRIS and NIEHS. If there are other documents you have been looking for and they seem to no longer exist, please let us know and we will try to get access to them and post them.

Fingers crossed that all of the P30's have their funding in place soon, so we can all get some important pilot projects funded, summer efforts in place, and community engaged work underway. Looking forward to making a difference!!
