CHI Gave $1.2 Million to 40 First-Time Homebuyers in 2017
CHI's Homeownership Division distributed over $1.2 million to 40 first-time homebuyers in 2017, including grants of $40,000 each to 16 first-time homeowners who moved in to the Waterwheel Condominiums in the Village of Ardsley.

Comprised of 22 newly constructed two and three bedroom condos, the Waterwheel is a partnership between CHI and developer/builder/architect Ardsley Waterwheel Partners LLC, Opus Architectura, and Architectura all with offices in Fort Lee, New Jersey.

In 1997, CHI established its Homeownership Program which provides education and counseling to assist first-time homebuyers through the entire home purchase process and administers grants averaging $25,000 toward down-payment and home rehabilitation assistance to income-eligible first-time homebuyers. Through this program, CHI has made the American dream of homeownership a reality for more than 800 families, distributing over $13 million in grants. CHI also provides foreclosure prevention counseling, ensuring successful homeownership.

HUD Releases Continuum of Care Awards for 2018
The U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) announced on January 11, 2018 its Continuum of Care (CoC) awards in the amount of $2 billion to support more than 7,300 local homeless assistance program across the country. New York State was awarded approximately $200 million in assistance, a 3% increase over 2016. CHI was funded for its three permanent supportive housing programs for a total of $191,055 in awards.

CHI faced cuts to these programs in 2017 when HUD prioritized chronically homeless people over stably housed people in supportive housing programs. In 2017, CHI provided permanent supportive housing in Nassau and Suffolk Counties for 137 people including 38 singles and 32 families.
