A More Cost-Effective Way to Help Homeless Men and Women
Community Housing Innovations prides itself on  thinking outside the box  for solutions to today’s social problems. One of CHI’s innovations for which we are most proud is the “Transitional to Permanent Housing” (TPH) model for housing the homeless. It addresses the significant population of motivated homeless single men and single women who do not need 24/7 staff coverage in a shelter, and places them in a shared home, where they cook and clean for themselves and receive support services from a CHI case manager. The TPH model is over $100 per day per person  less expensive   than the traditional shelter model. Our clients work on resumes with the help of their case manager, address health issues, and find permanent housing in an average of four and one-half months. And because they actually practice the skills to live on their own, they are more self-sufficient and less likely to return to the shelter system.

CHI Receives Funding from NYS OAG for Foreclosure Prevention Counseling
CHI has been notified that its application to the NYS Office of the Attorney General’s Home Owner Protection Program (HOPP) has been funded. CHI will be receiving $78,925 for a six-month period to continue to provide free foreclosure prevention counseling for homeowners in Westchester County . With this new funding, CHI will be able to add another full-time counselor to its foreclosure team. This could not come at a better time. With millions of Americans filing for unemployment and a COVID-19 related moratorium on evictions and foreclosures coming to an end, the need for prevention counseling services is at a premium.

Thank You HSBC for granting $10,000 to CHI's Homeownership Department

CHI is a HUD approved housing counseling agency that provides free pre-purchase and foreclosure prevention counseling in accordance with the National Industry Standards for Homeownership Education & Counseling.

SPOTLIGHT ON CHI'S FLEET DRIVERS
CHI’s fleet drivers work hard every day to support our transportation needs. The demands of the current pandemic have necessitated changes for everyone, and there is no exception for our drivers. Among their daily tasks, CHI’s fleet drivers transport needed supplies to our emergency and supportive housing programs. During the current pandemic, our drivers have been vital towards distributing PPE and food to CHI’s sites. Now, as we look forward to the next phase of re-opening, CHI’s fleet drivers are putting safety first with a passenger screening process, vehicle cleaning, and plexiglass separating clients and drivers. They have also stepped in to provide coverage at facilities as needed. Thank you to CHI’s fleet drivers for their dedication!
Give to the Hand Up Fund
The Hand Up Fund allows you, our donors, to have a direct impact in bettering the lives of others. Every donation, no matter the size, has a profound and lasting impact. The Hand Up Fund meets the immediate needs of families living in emergency housing to enable them to become more financially self-sufficient. This includes costs associated with gaining employment, furthering education, participating in vocational programs, after-school activities for children, transportation or rental application fees -- expenses not covered by government programs. We have covered costs for hard-working clients to sit for Certified Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant exams or re-certifications, attend driving classes, obtain uniforms for a new job or enable children to participate in after-school or sports activities.
