CHI Receives Unconditional Approval as a Housing Counseling Agency from the Department of Housing & Urban Development
A recent compliance audit of CHI from the federal Department of Housing & Urban Development's Office of Housing Counseling yielded a stellar review resulting in its unconditional approval of CHI as a housing counseling agency for the next three years.

Housing Program Specialist Matthew Finn states, “I wanted to give recognition for the wonderful job you are doing in the community. Between the staff inside the office and those out in the field, your agency is making a wide outreaching positive effect for the local area.”

CHI has been a HUD-approved housing counseling agency since 1997 when it established its Homeownership Program, providing counseling, education and down payment grant assistance to income-qualified first-time home buyers in Nassau, Suffolk and Westchester Counties. Since that time, CHI has distributed over $17 million in grant assistance to over 800 first-time home buyers.
Funding for Foreclosure Prevention Counseling Extended
Governor Cuomo's approved budget includes $20 million allocated to foreclosure prevention services across New York State. The funds will be made available to the Attorney General’s Office for the Homeowner Protection Program (HOPP) to continue there. While we are unsure of further specifics at this time, it is wonderful news for the thousands of households that need this vital assistance.

Thank you to Empire Justice Center and the many individuals who worked tirelessly to get this included in the budget.

As we begin to build this out, we will share photos of our progress and information about the impact of the program.
