CHICO UPDATES
HISPANIC COMMUNITY MEETING
CHICO will be holding our next community meeting on Saturday, February 11th at 10:00 am.

This meeting is open to all community members and families. Spanish interpreters will be available as needed. RSVP below!

Directions: Head South on Route 51 and go past Rotary Park and Grove Road. It is the next left turn after Grove Road at the giant American Flag.
Once you turn, there will be a soccer field on the left and a building under construction on the right. (3120 S Route 51)
Continue straight (East) past the pavilion and through a set of opened gates. This is the WRC Building.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
THE GOOD SAMARITAN INN
The Good Samaritan Inn is looking for February volunteers to help serve their daily meals.

The 9:00 to 11:00 am shift can be filled by 2-3 people and involves food preparation.

The 11:00 am to 1:00 pm shift requires 4 to 6 people to help serve patrons the daily noon meal.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY RESTORE
The Decatur Area Habitat for Humanity is looking for volunteers at the ReStore on Tuesday - Friday from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

The Decatur Area Habitat for Humanity is looking to form a Construction Group to work on their Rehab and Construction homes.

COMMUNITY RESOURCES
EMPOWER PANTRY
Every Tuesday and Thursday from
9 - 11:30 a.m., the Empowerment Opportunity Center located at 360 E Marietta St. provides free personal and household supplies to those in need.

First-time shoppers will need a valid ID to preregister for this service.

THE SALVATION ARMY FOOD PANTRY
Every Tuesday and Wednesday from 5 - 7 p.m. and Saturday from 8 - 10 a.m., the Salvation Army located at 229 W Main St., provides free food items to those in need.
2022 TAX PREPARATION
Millikin University and the Decatur Public Library are providing free 2022 tax preparation assistance by appointment only.

Eligibility: Families with incomes of $70,000 or less OR individuals with incomes of $35,000 or less.

DOWNPAYMENT PLUS PROGRAM
Hickory Point Bank & Trust's Downpayment Plus Program is awarding up to $10,000 to eligible homebuyers to use toward down payment and closing costs.

Homebuyers must meet income eligibility requirements and:
  • Contribute at least $1,000 to the purchase of the home
  • Complete pre-purchase homebuyer education and counseling
  • Live in the home as your primary residence

FIRST TIME HOME BUYING WORKSHOP
The Decatur Public Library is hosting a First Time Home Buyer Workshop on Thursday, February 7 at 6 p.m.

Learn what to expect in the home buying process, credit and loan requirements, and possible grant money available through First Time Home Buyer programs.
DECATUR COMMUNITY RESOURCES
Looking for a dependable source of information about and assistance with healthcare, housing, food, and more?


Community members may also set up a confidential appointment with the library Social Worker. All assistance is free and available to the public.

COMMUNITY EVENTS
NON-CREDIT CULINARY CLASSES
Richland Community College is offering two non-credit culinary classes in time for Valentine's Day.

The Valentine's Dinner for Two course will be held on February 10 from 6 - 8 p.m. The course includes preparing petite fillets, twice-baked potatoes, grilled asparagus, and chocolate-dipped strawberries. The cost is $55 per person.

On February 11 from noon to 3 p.m., the community can take the Cake Decorating Basics course where you can become icing connoisseurs. The cost is $60 per person.

MARDI GRAS CASINO NIGHT
Mardi Gras Casino Night is a fundraiser to generate funds for Dr. Chili Park.

Tickets are $30 and include unlimited hors devours, musical entertainment, access to a fully stocked cash bar, and $200 in starter casino cash.

DANCING UNDER THE SEA FAMILY FUN NIGHT
The Mt. Zion CEO Class is hosting a family fun night at the Mt. Zion Convention Center on Saturday, February 18 from 7 - 9 p.m.

SUPPER WITH A SIDE OF SOUL
Enjoy a delicious meal and performance from the Decatur Park District Heart and Soul Special Needs Choir. All proceeds will go to support the choir.

CASA COFFEE CRAWL
Macon County CASA is hosting its 3rd annual CASA Coffee Crawl with 9 participating local coffee shop locations.

A percentage of all sales go to support Macon County CASA and their mission to advocate for abused and neglected children in our community.
NEW LIFE PREGNANCY CENTER FEBRUARY EVENTS
DECATUR POLAR PLUNGE
Join the Decatur Polar Plunge event and support the Special Olympics Illinois athletes across the state.

SCHOLARSHIPS
HACER SCHOLARSHIP
The McDonald's HACER National Scholarship Program will offer scholarships to up to 30 outstanding Hispanic students.

Applications are open to legal U.S. residents or DREAMer/DACA recipients younger than 21 years old.


The deadline is February 6.
NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP
The National Scholarship awards up to $39,000 for tuition, fees, books, and supplies for a bachelor's degree at one of TheDream.US' Partner Colleges.

Applications are open to undocumented immigrant students with or without DACA or TPS who came to the U.S. before the age of 16 and before November 1, 2017.


The deadline is February 28.
BHW WOMEN IN STEM SCHOLARSHIP
The BHW Scholarship is open to women who are pursuing an undergraduate or master's degree and are majoring in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics during the 2023 school year.


The deadline is April 15.
DENES I. BARDOS AWARD
The Denes I. Bardos Award is given to students in recognition for achievement in their community and science or engineering.

Applications are open to first or second generation immigrants and students in their final year of high school or students enrolled in a college degree program within the past 6 months.


The deadline is May 1.

Decatur Public Schools is hosting a hiring fair on Wednesday, February 15 from 4:30 - 6 p.m. at MacArthur High School.
DCLI PAID SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
DPS61 high school students interested in having a valuable experience this summer should consider applying to intern!
