Grand County has the longest-running celebration of National Public Lands Day in the country. This year marked the 31st NPLD, and Grand County's 30th consecutive year of getting volunteers out on the land. There were a dozen projects throughout the county, working with the US Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, the National Park Service, Colorado Parks & Wildlife, many of the towns, and other nonprofits, including Colorado Headwaters Land Trust!
We removed a drift fence from the Jones Creek Ranch Conservation Easement (aka Himebaugh Gulch) in the Town of Hot Sulphur Springs. Six volunteers removed 41 t-posts and nearly 3/4 mile of barbed wire! Now the wildlife and livestock can run freely on the easement without needing to avoid any unnecessary fencing.
Thank you to Dan Nolan from the Town for coordinating the project, Headwaters Trails Alliance for leading Grand County National Public Lands Day, and our great volunteers for getting the job done!
Below are a few photos from the day.
