Dear Friend,
Conservation is most effective when it’s focused on community.
Conservation easements are meant to conserve private lands, but the benefits reach far beyond the landowner taking the steps to conserve their property. From protecting and sustaining free-flowing rivers to supporting the habitat for any number of our wildlife friends to defending the night sky against artificial light pollution, conservation easements produce greater effects for the entire region.

National Public Lands Day
Saturday, September 28
National Public Lands Day is the largest and most productive volunteer project event of the year. Grand County has the longest-running annual NPLD event in the country with numerous projects spread out throughout the county. Volunteers have their choice of project which is usually followed by celebrating with a picnic in the park.

Thank you to everyone who attended our fourth annual Songs & Stars event, this year at Shadowcliff Mountain Lodge in Grand Lake! We had a full turn-out, enjoyed delicious food provided by the Shadowcliff staff and wonderful music by Sierra the Daring and Brandon Mach. Jeremy Krones presented on the intersection of conservation easements and protecting the night sky, and Kim White from the Town of Grand Lake spoke on the Town's campaign for Dark Sky certification.
Unfortunately it was raining so we weren't able to stargaze like usual, but everyone had a great time talking about the sky and what we can each do to reduce and prevent light pollution, and meeting other interested conservationists from all over Grand County, Colorado, and the West!

Plein Air @ Altitude event brings artists to capture serene scenes in Grand County
The fourth annual Plein Air @ Altitude event is taking place from Aug. 31 to Sept. 1. The annual event is hosted by Fraser Valley Arts, and it has partnered up with the Colorado Headwaters Land Trust and Rendezvous Colorado.
Participants of the event had the opportunity to paint on private ranches and land trusts while enjoying Grand County’s high alpine views. Plein air is a French term that means in the open air, and is the practice of painting outdoors.
