Thank you to everyone who supported
Plein Air @ Altitude!
Plein Air artists painting the Colorado River from the bridge on the Granby Highlands-Trails Conservation Easement project.
We are thrilled to have seen such strong support for the beautiful views of Grand County through art at this year's Plein Air @ Altitude event! CHLT supports this event by working with landowners to allow artists to paint on these unique parcels throughout the county.

Congratulations to Carol Newsome for winning the land trust category for her painting of the Colorado River from the Granby Highlands-Trail Conservation Easement project!

CHLT's Monthly Giving Program
Want to make a big impact by conserving and stewarding the land we love across Grand County in 2023? Become a monthly donor of CHLT!
We are in the final stretch to permanently conserving 780 acres of open space and two river miles, all in the Town of Granby! This project is community-driven and will benefit everyone, from recreators to wildlife - just like so many of our conservation projects. Thank you to everyone who has supported the project thus far, and continue to show their support for our work throughout the county.

With your gift, you can help Colorado Headwaters Land Trust continue to protect spaces like the Granby Highlands Trails Easement in perpetuity, for visitors, locals, and wildlife to enjoy, forever.

Sky-Hi News 8/10/23

When was the last time you went outside and looked up at the sky? When was the last time you did that at night?

I’ve always loved finding constellations. It speaks to the creativity of humans, to find shapes in the stars at night. Orion was the first one I learned in elementary school, but I soon could find the Big and Little Dipper, the cross of the Swan and others. Each one is unique and has its own story.

Sky-Hi News 9/01/23

Land use is rarely all-or-nothing. Ranching, logging, recreation and open spaces can coexist and collaborate when we recognize that we all benefit from sharing the land and resource management.

What limits land use most is development, or the construction of residential, commercial or industrial infrastructure. Development destroys natural habitat, removing native wildlife and allowing invasive and non-native species to fill the spaces between buildings and parking lots.

  • On August 29, 2023, the Grand County Drought Preparedness Committee declared that Grand County remains in Drought Watch. Despite consistent rainfall, the county experienced temperatures ranking among the 10th to 20th warmest on record in July. The Quick Drought Response Index further highlights the progression towards drier conditions. Learn more about how to conserve water here.

  • The 2023 Big Game hunting season began in Colorado on Saturday, September 02. Over the next three months we will see hunters pursuing elk, deer, moose, and other animals throughout Colorado, including on the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests. It is strongly encouraged to wear bright colors and make noise to make your presence known while recreating during hunting seasons. Visit Colorado Parks & Wildlife for more information.

  • Colorado Parks and Wildlife collects public input on elk herd management. Comment on the plan through a survey by September 08. Read more here.
