This Sunday in Worship: September 8, 2024

Sixteenth Sunday After Pentecost

Last week in worship, we discussed how we must be "doers" of the word, not simply "hearers". To encounter the Good News which Jesus has brought into the world means to participate in this Good News with our actions. This week we will discuss what is at stake if we don't take this appeal seriously. Join us this Sunday as we dive into why it is important to keep our faith alive and vibrant through good works that reflect our good God!

Come share the Peace of Christ with coffee and fellowship before worship, beginning at 9:30 in the Parlor! All are welcome; hope to see you there!

Sunday's Scripture:

Psalm 146:1-10, NRSV

James 2:1-10, 14-18, NRSV

Sermon Title:

"Screen Door on a Submarine"

September Suppers Continue This Sunday

Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church gathers for a congregational supper and intergenerational bible study for the next three weeks about the Sermon on the Mount from Matthew's Gospel. All are welcomed to join us in the gym from 5:00 to 6:30 pm as we discuss Matthew 5:13-48 together. Children will participate in a special music and bible study program while the Youth and Adults enjoy studying scripture. The meal this Sunday will be a congregational potluck, so please bring your favorite dish to share. Spread the word and invite your friends to this intergenerational event!

Nominations Needed

The 2024 Officer Nominating Committee (ONC) is authorized by the Session to accept suggestions from church members to serve as Elders for the class of 2027, Trustees for the class of 2027, and members of the 2025 Officer Nominating Committee.

From the names you suggest, and dependent upon the work of the Holy Spirit, the ONC will move a slate of five individuals for your approval as Elders, two individuals as Trustees, as well as three individuals to serve on next year’s ONC. In accordance with the Book of Order, a congregational meeting to elect officers has been called by the Session at the conclusion of worship on Sunday, October 20. The deadline for returning your suggestions is Sunday, September 15. You may offer your submissions by completing a nomination form and returning it to the church office or emailing it to Mary directly. Thank you for taking the time to discern who God is calling to lead our church family in this new season!

Volunteer Spotlight: CHPC's Marquee

Service is a central part of the communal life of faith at CHPC. It takes a village of volunteers to help make the various ministries of our church family happen week in and week out. If you are already volunteering in a meaningful way, THANK YOU!!! If you are looking for a new way to serve, check out how below as we share various opportunities throughout the month of September.

This first week of the month, we want to highlight the church's marquee sign. Thousands of people drive by it regularly and see what is happening at CHPC. The Worship Committee serves as the lead group for this resource to plug what is happening in the life of our church family. Volunteers are needed to help change the sign one to two times a month, which will be especially important with our upcoming pumpkin patch. If you or someone you know would like to serve, please contact Elder KC Savage to learn more. Thank you for prayerfully considering where God is calling you to serve!
